Big Pro confirms it was more than just a cut, as many people here suspected. Tendon damage.

Can’t believe that 2019 series was 6 years ago.

I was at that game 7. Shame we pissed that one away. We were in control but let in a couple stinkers. Carolina of course dominated both OT periods but we should have taken that game and not let it get to that. Holtby let in that Aho shorthanded softie and was way off his angle on the staal tying goal.

Oshie getting hurt also didn’t help. That series made me sad!
I was at that Game 7 as well. Hard way to go out. for a game 7 i didn’t think the energy was that great.

It has felt different this year. I went to 2 of 3 home games in round one. It was electric and fun crowd. Everyone is hyped. Bring on the Canes!

I hate Sunday noon playoff games - especially game 1. Seems to kill the home ice advantage. Meanwhile, the low seed team gets a raucous home crowd on a friday night.

I think theres some ”stuck in 2019” touch here. Canes is not a young team on an uprise, its a steady veteran group just as us. 30+ players;

Burns, 40
Staal, 36
Andersen 35
Orlov, 33
Hall 33
Gostisbehere 32
Martinook 32
Slavin 31
Walker 30
Jankowski 30
Carrier 30

Vs

Ovechkin 39
Carlson 35
Eller 35
Dowd 34
van Riemsdyk 33
McIlrath 33
Wilson 31
Lindgren 31
Roy 30

Canes have lost some of their firepower upfront and in the backend. No Pesce, no Necas, etc. Theyve added some aswell obviously. Just saying, its not the same team. For neither one.

As many of our guys are at their prime or still young as have Canes. Its not the ”veterans vs youth” that was in 2019.

Canes is very good, but just for this season im not giving the edge on 5on5 before the series start. Dubois-line did ok against Suzukis, but they are still due for the kind of dominating performance they had from time to time in reg season. If they get their A-game on they are capable not just matching the Aho-line, but winning the matchup too. I have them pretty tied up for what comes 5on5, pre-series.

I like the goalie mathcup. Thompson was great against Habs and Lindgren is capable. Andersen/Kotchetkov is a question mark.

Biggest obsticle is the special teams. Especially PP. Worried that the Canes will outscore our PP with their aggressive PK, they will push a lot of pressure for Ovie and Carlson and thats our poison.

Uh, he only played in one game 7 for the Capitals, so I think this is a problem of your own expectations rather than any indictment on his play.

Williams was good for us...

You still don't understand the irony I'm conveying. He was brought in as Mr. Game 7. Didn't do anything for us on a Game 7, but helped beat us in Game 7 in 2019.

Everything else he did as a Cap is not pertinent to a Canes vs Caps thread.

Think the series comes down to we handle the Canes forecheck and the quality of our zone entries. If we’re flinging the puck out on a semi-panic to escape forecheck pressure or dumping it in because neutral zone is clogged, we’re in laying it into the Canes hands. If there’s lots of puck support, movement without the puck (not enough of that vs Habs IMO), connectedness, F and D interchanges, then we’re playing the 5 man game that was the key to our success this year, and we’re good
