For those who know the rules better than I: Could Cristall join the Caps in-season? (Regardless of whether or not his contract would slide.)

Just thinking it would be a fun and fitting "F U".
Not until his season in Kelowna is done. Given the WHL playoffs last year started at the very end of March and the Memorial Cup is scheduled from May 22 to June 1 ... there's almost no way he could

I believe there are provisions that allow for an emergency call-up but not sure what is involved. I’m guessing it is laborious since we never see it.

Cam Allen with 1+2 and is still leading his team in points. So does he get traded before Luchanko over takes him in points or after?
Before! He was still in the team lead for points today. (Although, with Luchanko heading to junior worlds, he might have remained in the lead.)

This trade will hopefully be good for Allen's development. And obviously the Caps already have a good relationship with the Knights.

London should be a great spot for Allen dialing in his decision-making for a very structured, pro style team. I wouldn't necessarily rule out an OA return next year if he's deemed not quite ready for a regular AHL spot vs. either sitting or starting in the ECHL.

Mateiko is expected to be dealt to Memorial Cup hosts Rimouski once his World Juniors are over.

I figured he might be (yet another) Caps prospect that's dealt to a top-team. Allen obviously traded already. Who knows what'll Kelowna Rockets end up doing but with them hosting the Memorial Cup in 2026 and Iginla out for the year, it'd surprise me if they didn't move Cristall and maybe Price to load up for next season.

Would be great if few of them were to meet up in the Memorial Cup finals with Allen in London, Mateiko in Rimouski and Cristall in one of the top WHL teams (Cougars, please).

OK, so are all of the WJC rosters complete/announced? The IIHF site doesn't show rosters for most teams..

Here's what I think I put together of the Caps prospects involved..? Someone who pays more attention can feel free to correct/edit/add.

Latvia, Eriks Mateiko, LW/RW, 2024 3rd round
Switzerland, Leon Muggli, D, 2024 2nd round
Czechia, Petr Sikora, C, 2024 6th round
Slovakia, Miroslav Satan, C, 2024 7th round
US, Ryan Leonard, C, 2023 1st round
US, Cole Hutson, D, 2024 2nd round

Allen, Hudson, and Muggi all trending well. And hopefully Iorio and Chesley about to break through. Some nice prospect strength coming up.

With his 5 in 2, Allen is now 6th in points per game by defensemen under 20 in the OHL.

It's not at all unreasonable to think that each of Allen, Leonard, Chesley, and Cristall could be competing for time between Hershey and DC next season. Hope they have a plan to clear some lineup spots for them (without compromising too much on team quality).

As a player drafted from an international league, Muggli is also eligible to play in the AHL at 19 next year. From the sound of it he might be ready for the challenge, though I can see them wanting him back in the Swiss League (or loaned to another, better, international league team) just to help with the logjam some.

And Protas The Younger was technically drafted out of the USHL, so he can also play in the AHL (or ECHL) at age 19 next season if they want.

Good problems to have.

This is partly why I'd like them to think about trading TVR in the offseason. I think it's time Iorio graduates to getting real NHL minutes.

But yes, I really wonder what Hershey's plan is the next few years with real prospects finally coming through. A lot of veteran AHL lifers on that team, but that team has been consistently great so it's hard to want to mess with that.

I really don’t think they move TVR. Gonna want him around for last run with OV next year. Contract is fine. I think it is probably Iorio and Alexyev as 7-8 next year.

For the Bears, i suspect they will have less 25+ players. Certainly Caps don’t seem too interested in Ethan Frank.

Here are the UFA’s in Hershey. There are some like Hunt and Ness on AHL only deals. Ness is signed through next year as Captain. Hunt will be gone for sure. McIlrath is also a UFA at years end so will be interesting what Caps do with him.
