Cristall is just like his future teammates in Washington, undervalued despite showing the best results so far this season.

How Hockey Canada decides to leave him off the roster despite his insane numbers in the CHL is beyond me. Then again, they also left LT off the roster for Samuel f***ing Montembault LOL

Bizarre choice.

Sucks that they've kind of taken his dream away when realistically he should be there for the 2nd time already but... Good for the US. Canada had all the makings to build a ridiculous team and they botched much of it giving Leonard and the guys better chance to repeat.

The sad thing about Cristal is that he has spent 4 years in the WHL. He has been a major players for 3 of those years. One with Bedard and two without. He has continued to progress and work on the things he needed to. I can’t wait to get him out of the WHL. And furthermore I can’t wait to see him continue to grow and shove it in Canada’s face.

What are non-caps fans saying. I don’t venture to the mains.

At least it means I don't have to care about Canada at all in this tournament (and Four Nations).

It's insane that Canada got knocked out early last year because they couldn't score and doubled (tripled?) down on bringing a bunch of plugs to "play bottom 6 roles"

podcast with Ryan Leonard:

He talks about a bunch of subjects, including a bit on the Caps involvement in his development.

(I've seen a few episodes of this and Pierre McGuire is much more palatable as a podcast host than on TV.)

Seems like preferential treatment for players that have made the team at younger levels. I kinda get it. But still for a prospect that really impressed in the big camp and lit up the WHL returning feels weird. Well if Canada fails there will be endless hindsight 20/20 opportunities to bring up.

I have to root against Canada in the WJC because Cristall didn't make the team?

Done.

How does Hockey Canada discount what Cristall did against NHL and top AHL players in the pre-season, or Carberry’s assessment that he looked really close to ready to be in the NHL - and when he goes back down he absolutely dominates every one in his age group. But the sage troglodytes in Hockey Canada know better. Will be great to see them under-achieve again because they struggle to score.

It’s as if the dinosaurs that decided he wasn’t good enough last year couldn’t face admitting that he actually belongs on - and is needed by - the team. God forbid someone should question their judgment.

If the talent is deep they can get away with leaving some great offensive players but when they are in the middle, it comes back to bite them.

I'll add, even though I don't trust my memory fully, that there was year in the 2000s they just went all offensive players and they lost. The play it safe still since the still generate the most NHL players.
