I just had a week and a half where every time she wanted to know what I was thinking about it was Ilya Protas
dude .. keep that joke going for as long as possible

Any time my wife says something like "my elbow hurts" or "im hungry" or "have you seen my keys, I keep losing things"

I say "do you know what helps with that .." and we laugh

Its a reference to her not allowing facials

We are with her parents, she tells them "im not sleeping well lately", I say "Ohh do you know what helps with that honey."

and its funny as f*** to the 2 of us

More random .. the better

Sometimes she''l reverse uno on me

My GF does this to me all the time because I have a chronically bad left shoulder.

I know what helps with that. And it is none of the things mentioned!

Nicely formed question.

''Hey Alex, do you think you'll sign a new contract and get to 1000 goals?''

''No, i don't think that's possible.''

He's not going to sign another contract!!!!

Anyways these Russian interviews are just nothing news these days. Players are polite and always mention how they dream of playing for their hometown teams and finishing their careers there. For a guy like Ovechkin it's just PR. He's as competitive guy as you can find in all of sports, you really think he's going to walk away from top team in the best league in the world to play in B-tier league when he can still hack it with the best of 'em? Hell no.

If Capitals get 100 points and win a round next season while Ovechkin still has something to give, there is 0% chance that he leaves for KHL. Zero. Retirement might be possible if that's what he wants but i've heard him say for years that he's going to play while he feels he has something to give but he's not going to stay in the league if his play falls off. That's propably why he doesn't want to give out any interviews where he's saying ''I'll go for 1000!''. He's not going to stay in the league just floating around hoping to get 10 goals a season.

The thing that senior Protas that stood out as others have also pointed out was the hockey IQ/sense. And with that big reach any draftnik would look at hey can he improve his skating skill and then probably next on his list the shooting. The last of which, in some ways, I give him the most credit as scoring at the NHL level could be one of the hardest skills at the top level.

So yes he may have had enough by the end of the contact...

All the more reason to NOT make any major FA moves until NEXT summer so we can be more sure of his intentions at that time, and know how our youth have continued to develop, and maximize cap space (this delay in FA hunting strategy would not preclude hockey trades).

Again here are next summer's FAs currently not signed with ages, sorted by this season goals.

We should sign both McDavid and Eichel.

Ovi has always expressed interest in retiring from the NHL and playing in the KHL. He has mentioned that a bunch of times during his career so that report really isnt a shock. He has just about every other goal scoring record besides Gretzkys and the most SHGs and we know that was never happening lol. Most ENGs, most PP goals, most goalies scored on, 1600+ all time points, and eventually the most goals of all time. What else is there to accomplish? He’s won pretty much every major award in his career that he could win and he has a cup.

Hopefully the team goes on a deep run this year or next year. I’m sure he’s communicated to them his intentions so they can plan out UFA targets and set up their salary cap structure for next summer.

I could be entirely wrong, but I have always believed that Ovechkin wants to play a few years in the KHL before retiring from hockey and have seen nothing to change that opinion. Obviously, Ovechkin is in a league of his own, but this has been the path for many prominent Russian hockey players over the years.

Fedorov - retired from the NHL after 08-09 but played three more seasons in the KHL
Datsyuk - retired from the NHL after 15-16 but played five (!) more season in the KHL
Kovalchuk - retired from the NHL after 19-20 but played two more seasons (scattered over different years) in the KHL
