Despite many thinking Raddysh comes out, I don’t think so. Coaches trust him. Also seems like good teammate vibes. Will be interesting to see what we do with him and Dowd in offseason.

Miro has been playing RW is right there. so is Leonard. And Frank. Rybinski and Trineyev might have 4th line chances. Paraszek is trending but couple years away.

Can Leonard join immediately after the NCAA tournament is over? That is if he wanted to.
He can join whenever his season is over. Has to sign his contract and can’t do that until season is over. Hope that is all agreed to and sitting in the drawer. In they play in Frozen Four/Championship then he would at best get 3 regular season games with Caps. More likely 1 or 2. And there would have to be a corresponding move so unless someone on IR it could be zero.

Watched the Beauvillier goal reel. He is pretty quick to the net and bangs around in there well for a small guy. Rather see if we can open up his offensive side a bit.

I would prefer Mangi back to forth line. Frank has proven he can be trusted. Nice option to have as 13F.

Beauvillier-Eller-Raddysh
Duhaime-Dowd-Mangi
He has some OT playoff winners too.

Roster size limits go away the day of the trade deadline. The only issue is cap space and they kept enough open for it.

Are where the hot spots are in Beauv’s map

Protas is now a +35. 10 more then next highest on the team.

I know stat nerds dont value +/- but thats impressive by Protas

He might be a unicorn

I've said before, I'll say again - I did NOT see this much skill coming from Protas. The dude is just playing with so much confidence now. That backhand to Fehervary for the goal yesterday was such a pretty pass. His 2 goals against Detroit the other night were wicked shots to corners. He's got high hockey IQ, plays good D, he's 3rd among Caps forwards in 4 vs 5 PK time on ice... What a gem.

Caught this on the broadcast yday...

Among NHLers 24 or younger Protas is third in goals behind Caufield and Jack Hughes. Only Jack Hughes is younger (by a little over four months).

I did not know this. I thought cap and player limits went away in the playoffs.
There is no salary cap in the playoffs. Regionals for the NCAA tournament are in late March, so if BC is eliminated early Leonard would be available to play in regular season games since the Caps regular season ends on April 17. Even if they win the natty, the Frozen Four is April 10-12 this year, so he could still play in regular season games. They had to keep cap available for him to be able to sign his contract and join them.

Protas:
Goals - 25 (Tied: 30th)
Assists - 30 (Tied: 68th)
Points - 55 (Tied: 43rd)
+/- - +35 (Tied: 1st)
EVG - 23 (Tied: 9th)
EVP - 50 (Tied: 9th)
SHG - 2 (Tied: 14th)
SHP - 4 (Tied: 9th)
GWG - 5 (Tied: 25th)

Pretty good numbers all across the board for a guy whose cap hit is only the 298th highest in the NHL.

so real questions is how far will Boston College go? Are they the favorite? dont follow college hockey. Even so, the GM said Leonard would likely be depth (press box) for the playoffs. Hopes and dreams, but wanted him to join the team the way Kreider did in the playoffs all those years ago and have an immediate impact.

I've been a Protas guy since Day 1.

Don't give up on guys like Protas or Wilson who have upside. They ARE unicorns.
I wrote this during a preseason GDT in Sept 2019: “Protas has a really high hockey IQ. Really digging his composure.”

Hockey IQ is either something you have or you don’t. You give the guys who understand the game every opportunity to improve whatever physical limitations they might have because you can’t teach seeing the game like moves a chess board — you either have it or you don’t. You can tell very early on at the pro levels who thinks the game at a high level and who has gotten by on physical gifts.

Wilson was always a very high IQ player as well which is why I was on the No Skill Willy train from the beginning. He made bad and reckless choices at times but he was always thinking the game the right way.

i have to admit I have never been more wrong about a player in my entire time watching hockey. I didnt like Wilson in the beginning, I despised watching Protas his first year or two. Could not process in my mind why he was on the roster. If you told me he would do what he has done this year I wouldve bet a million against it. Guy is beast now. He has to be the best contract in the NHL by a mile. Ill admit I was about done with CMM too. Just didnt see him taking the next step. Would be nice If I could make it 3/3 and have Lapiere turn into something.
