Why does every one think Ovie is finished. Hes top of the league in goals per game. He loves hockey. Why are we sending him to the KHL or retirement home?
Tom Brady went to age 44. Lebron is 40 and dominating the NBA. JAGR! is still a pro hockey player....

I for one think Ovi will continue to play after his current contract but I believe he will want to finish his career with Dynamo which he has expressed before.

If they’re going to pay him $9.5 past next season, maybe he stays?

I don't personally think Leonard's shot/goal scoring are at Caufield's level, but his all around game and passing are better. If we look at their stats at the WJC and and in College, his numbers are at least comparable. If he turns pro(he better), I don't see why he can't have a decent impact on this squad, even in the playoffs. Caufield had 12 points in 20 playoff games the year he signed with Montreal(20-21). If we get anything remotely comparable to that, it's huge for the team.

How do we not have a 1st line but have the #T5th, #T17th, and #T30th ranked goalscorers in the league?

How are Wilson and Protas just shutdown guys to throw at the other team's top line when they're the T17 and T30 ranked scorers mentioned above?

How are we leading the East in points and only trailing the Jets in the entire NHL if we are so flawed?

What's the real picture? The last 3 games or the rest of the season?

There is a lot of recency bias going on with the last few games, but I expect a letdown after a MASSIVE offensive explosion coming out of the break.

They will figure it out, and I don't think we'll be burning a lot of high end talent or draft capital to do it.

IMO they came out flying after the 4N break because they hadn't played in a while and were fresh. After a couple of signature wins they got back into that familiar "coast mode" we saw for years at the tail end of the season when the playoffs were assured and all they were doing was running out the string.

These are the same guys who looked nearly flawless in their quick, precise execution and positioning just a few games ago. They're slacking is all. They may not even realize it.
I think your taking what I said a bit out of context.

We don’t have a 1st line, compared to other Cup contenders. It’s due in part because we don’t have a 100+ point star (that is in his prime) driving play from that line.

We do have two elite second lines. Protas PLD Wilson is an elite shutdown line because they are all elite in their own zone and also are great in the offensive zone. I don’t think they are D only but their skills there are most important in a playoff series.

We are leading the East because our top 6 are all having great years, defense is producing, and goalies are great

BUTTTTTT

The Caps are easily beat, the 3rd line is a problem, a few matchups here and there and it’s a lost series. The Ovechkin Strome whoever are soft in the D zone, they are a liability in a playoff series….even though they will produce offensively. And not to mentions our goalies really suck in heavy traffic.

There are tons of ways this good team can get better, better for a playoff series in particular.

There’s a lot of guys on this roster, McMichael, Lapierre, Mangipanie, 1sts, that I would trade for higher end talent. Another cup run at the expense McMichael and Lapierres career’s as Caps is a good trade

He gets a blank check right?
He isn’t going to come back. He has stated as much that he wants to retire playing for Dynamo.

The caps have depth for sure but not enough game breakers IMHO.

New England fan coming in here, Brady was catapulted by great bucs D and a well curated offense. It’d be like putting Ovechkin onto team Sweden, they will cover his D liability and feed him like a touretee.

Ov is great. I love him. Tried to name my newborn Alex. He’s old, come playoffs he will be a third liner with PP time.

Im fine with the three years. With the salary cap projected to be 113.5M by year three of that deal, that's a very movable contract should they need to move him out. He'd be turning 34 last last season... thats not ancient by any means.

Thats about the going rate for a backup goalie (with the new salary cap), and I really dont see anyone else out there better than him that would be a free agent.

I ain't no cap nerd but if this impacts their ability to re-sign Chy I would not be happy

They better have room to re sign that man he is a huge reason why they are so good this year
