For anyone who doesn't track, every Sunday JFresh puts out a number of sheetz with various team stat rankings. I always appreciate seeing them. I hesitate to embed all of them both for size and to avoid any appearances of posting full proprietary content. But I know some here doesn't use sheeter, so I'll only post the ones he's done so far today (in spoiler tags to help reduce clutter). More will come through the afternoon.

If you value this kind of thing, consider giving him money. https://www.patreon.com/jfreshhockey. (I do, even though I don't put a lot of stock in most "conclusions" that get drawn from this type of analysis.)

Please stop….especially the asking for money part.

We have a stats thread for this stuff.

Sounds like maybe whatever Eller has (COVID?) is working its way through the lockerroom? I can't imagine it's not illness related with how much they've talked about how good the locker room has been this year.

Almost Christmas-break GAR update:

1734959988956.png

Notes:
-Sandin and Wilson are 99th and 98th percentiles respectively
-Dubois is a 97th percentile player. He started out a bit slow, though still better than most expected. But now he is on another level. 25 points in 33 games is very good, but his impacts are felt all over the ice. This is everything they could have asked for and more out of PLD.
-Connor McMichael is at the 77th percentile in GAR, so half of the team is at that mark or better.
-It's great that they're giving Lapierre a chance but he's been the clear weak link in the lineup. I don't think they should keep him in the lineup much longer, especially with Ovechkin coming back soon. He needs a reset.

Just a little gambling note, the caps used to be easy money for over 5.5 goals

Now they’re defense and goalies are too good and it almost never hits anymore. That’s not a bad thing.

So I've complained about Carbs tendency to shorten the bench before and I'm about to do it again.

What I said previously is that Carbs needs to get more comfortable playing Vrana/Lappy/Miro, because if they make a Cup run, he may need to play them in a game that goes to OT. So Carbs needs to get used to it for his own sake, but it will also get them more experience playing more time and in close games.

Again, this isn't really about whether a player has earned more time. It's about preparing them and Carbs for the possibility of them playing OT games in the playoffs in the case of injuries. But there have been multiple games where they played well and Carbs still shortened the bench. Those games would be a great opportunity to not shorten the bench. But unless it's a blowout, which the Caps haven't had in quite a while, that never happens.

I think shortening the bench affects the Caps more, because they rely on hard work more than most other top teams. So they players could get tired more easily despite playing the same amount of time.

In defense of Carbs, the Caps' top forwards are still playing reasonable amounts of time, even when he shortens the bench. My main concern is more about the playoffs, where there is a possibility of 2+ OT periods.

Every coach makes decisions that make you wonder…..I chalk it up to…either they’re making a mistake, or more likely, they have inside knowledge and are making decisions based on that knowledge and their professional experience.
