Mangiapane is a pretty unique case because I think part of the appeal for the Caps was that it's basically a 1-year tryout with a solid player. He plays well, just doesn't pop much and doesn't figure to with Eller anyway. So it might feel like a bit of a bummer, but he's far from a liability, contributes a fair bit and we get $5.8m at the end of the year to spend however we need. Maybe someone'll want to rent him later in the year.

*shrug* Not living up to our hopes, but also not a squeaky wheel and his contract isn't hurting us.

The problem was giving up a 2nd for a mid small player who cost more than numerous better players who were signed in the summer or traded for peanuts/with incentives like Tarasenko, Joseph, Noesen (no brainer third line signing after his play for the Canes over the last several years) or others. He's basically Conor Sheary 2.0 for us.

They should have gone all in on their Problem Child Trifecta and got paid to add Nichushkin along with Dubois and Chychrun

Unless a guy is your captain and/or a franchise player I don't see the point in signing him early. Let him continue to work for the money and don't lock yourself into something in case of injury.

Remove the sentiment from the business decision.

Yeah, for sure, best not to rush things for either party, but I’m sure all of us would love a nice Christmas gift of the announcement of a long reasonable deal for JC6
I’d be happy to unwrap that present. But I can wait until Valentine’s Day.

Never thought nichushkin was in serious danger of getting traded. When he’s playing he’s great and when he’s suspended or in the assistance program he doesn’t count against the cap anyway

LOL. Oh come on. That’s so stupid!

We are going to take Kuznetsov’s “concerns” as a reason to further hate Lavi? 😂😂😂.

What coach didn’t Kuz hate? Trotz? I guess. And then he “raves” about Carbery, but gave up on the season and asked for a trade …. Under said awesome coach (and I love Carbery).

The problem for Kuznetsov was Kuznetsov. Period end.

I know we all want to shit on Lavi, but come on man. That’s just imbecilic.

Yea, this is silly. Lavi gave Kuzy the longest leash of practically any coach. He remained 1C no matter how much he dogged it. If he didn’t love the system - fine, but you’re a pro, and you suck it up.

Carbs had to eventually healthy scratch Kuzy. And after a promising PO run in CAR, Kuzy literally fled the country to get away from RBA before even getting to this year’s training camp.

Whatever his issues are off the ice, I hope he is well and happy with his family. But, the guy just didn’t want to work to be a NHLer anymore, under any coach - plain and simple.

I don't think Kuzy was too fond of any kind of system. He wanted to be free to improvise. And when he was energized, motivated, locked in, and connected in a group mind way with his mates (like for 2 months in the Spring of 2018), it could be dazzling. But that version of Kuzy became episodic after the Cup and seemed to leave him (and his game) for good in 22-23.

Shouldn't have even made the team out of the gate this year. Should have been sent to Hershey and given Cristall his 9 game cup of coffee.

Imagine the Kuz playing for Gabby.

Pleased with Miro's progress. Would like to see us move to this general line up when Ovi is back:

Ovi - Strome - Protas
CMM - Dubois - Wilson
Miro - Eller - Mangiapane
Duhaime - Dowd - Raddysh

Lapierre/Vrana

I expect Miroshnichenko is ready to stay and contribute in the top 9.

Could move Mangiapane/Vrana for picks at the deadline and put Leonard in for Mangiapane. I think that lineup will shine.

Sometimes the best thing a GM can do is nothing and not make moves for the sake of moves... if we stay the course we very well could see this team a top contender going past Ovi's retirement with this top 9:

Miro - Strome - Leonard
CMM - Dubois - Wilson
Cristall - Protas - Protas

Potential as well from Parascak and Matieko

Sign J6 for 8 × 9 plus an Ox.
Maybe we see Hudson become a star, and Muggli and Allen become mainstays.

Have I ever mentioned I'm optimistic?

I like what the goalies are doing. I know the numbers have been a little off but I'm seeing a lot of Clutch saves, especially recently. Great to have two goalies in a great headspace and in a great room.

So much IS room and chemistry....

Our guys are ”breaking out (ie normal development)” 2 seasons later….

Rangers “young guys” had pretty good years Lavi’s first season….now the GM has a revolt against him personally….causality?

Kuzy was a loveable dipshit and you know it.

No need to defend Lavi anymore. He sucked with us. He is sucking miserably with the Ranger. He just sucks as a coach.

I like Lavi as an Xs and Os coach, but it's abundantly clear he has a very hard time maintaining relationships with the locker room. Even when successful he has a short shelf life.

And Laviolette is also a dipshit. What is your fascination with this guy?

Not meant at you @HTFN, just replying again to everyone throwing massive shade at Laviolette.

He’s the most accomplished US coach ever. The talk that he is dogshit is just wrong.

Has be gotten too old to win in the new league? Maybe? I guess?

Didn’t his team win the Prez Cup last year? And the ECF?

This kicking when down crap is just that. Crap. We look like bitter ex girlfriends with this shit.

Come on people. We are better than this
