The Oilers win is a major outlier. They scored 4 PPGs. When’s the last time they’ve accomplished anything like that, especially under the Lavi regime?

They lost 4 in a row prior to that. They’ve lost 5 out of their last 6 games, including loses to a Pittsburgh team that lost 7 in a row and an Arizona team that has a borderline AHL roster and plays in a college arena. There are some bad loses already this season. They also have way too many guys who are floating around the ice making bonehead plays or playing disinterested.

It might not be full blown team giving up YET, but the signs are there. Lavi has a track record of losing the room pretty quickly
I think that was an indictment of how bad the Oilers are playing right now and not so much on the Caps being able to step anything up….

At best there are some cracks in the foundation.

People want the guy gone….I get it, but I’m not seeing any level of quitting on him.

Of course no credit for a major upset given the lineups lol….

Gustafsson-Carlson first pairing? Oh my god haha. Get ready for the biggest loss in Caps history
It’s amazing. Honestly, how can these two players be paired together?

Laviolette is a lame duck, now I see why. How long before CMM asks for a trade and tanks any value he may have had?

If they continue this play going into Thanksgiving, that’s all, right?

Yeah haha. Well, at least we'll do more "offense"......

Im happy i decided to expect the 2022/2023 Caps to suck ass and miss playoffs. Takes the stress out of watching games and now i can enjoy Ovi scoring goals, good goaltending, Hathaway being a d*ck and the odd nice play by Kuzy without getting frustrated about everything else about the team.

There were cracks in the foundation leading back to last year. The crack gets deeper and deeper each game as he continues to make stupid ass roster decisions. How can a staff look at the Pittsburgh game, other than the first 5 or so minutes, and think those lines were solid enough to warrant another look? The only real positive from that game was the second line showing signs of life. They were the most dangerous line all night.

On a side note, Tarik’s mailbag today basically said that there’s no sense of change incoming due to the injury excuse. He also said he foresees management being forced to send CMM to Hershey at some point. I’ll quote it below:

McMichael has suited up for four of the Caps’ 15 games and has yet to register a point. If that doesn’t change, I suspect he will be sent down to the AHL so he can play more frequently, get reps on the first line, skate on the power play, etc. When might that happen? Unclear, but it’s starting to feel overdue. This is just me speculating: I wonder if he may have already been in Hershey if not for all of the injuries up front?

And? Not seeing the signs of quitting on Lavi. I see an old roster gutted by injury and mostly average youth options To fall back on.

The truth is, since Laviolette is in the last year of his deal, the team doesn’t have to quit on him for him to be fired. It’s the easiest way to provide a shakeup.

Yes, we are old and injured. But we are old because Laviolette values experience over everything else. It didn’t work in the postseason, when we were largely healthy, and it’s a worse idea now.

Add to that, he decided to pair Gustafsson and Carlson. That alone is a fireable offense.

The more they suck the higher their draft pick will be.

Y’all need to start looking on the bright side ;)

I don't think they've quit either. But I think they may rather quickly lose confidence in themselves 5v5 if they don't toughen up mentally and become more disciplined. They still seem to think they can just show up and battle and for that I have little problem with this season essentially going in the tank. Even when healthy they're not good enough to operate that way. It only goes double when short-handed.

I think they've only won, what, one game when not scoring 3 or more (excluding ENGs)? Just the NSH shutout IINM. For how this team is designed they probably have no shot of checking their way to the playoffs if they can't more routinely win games while scoring 2 goals or less. Without a much more targeted pivot in that direction as a matter of pride they're probably not going to make it. Given that scoring is up league-wide it becomes that much more difficult to execute such a narrow path. And, in that regard, I've been pretty disappointed in the effectiveness and discipline of the Dowd line lately. Not even getting high quality play from what's more or less their identity line under Lavi is a troubling development.

I definitely give them credit. It was a gritty win given the line-up, I just don’t think it’s completely indicative of any turn around happening.

I don't understand Tarik's, or really his thought of the teams, thought process. What is CMC doing for you sitting up stairs when you're down to your 16th or 17th or whatever we're at forward? He's still not getting games at that rate. Why not send him down and call up Sgarbossa or hell bring up Gersich. At least he has speed and you aren't potentially losing something by having him sit in the big leagues.

After AA played okay, at least to my eye he didn't seem like a non-NHL level player in that game, and is immedately sat for what ends up being Irwin so Carlson to come back I just don't understand how anyone can think this staff had any concept of a plan. Though, pointing that out I'm sure will bring someone out to complain again.

Some more fun things besides mcmichael probably being sent down from the tarik article:
- stadium series jersey likely based around the weagle
- Oshie, Carlson, Orlov all will be back soon, Malenstyn and Wilson both set for late december/early january returns, backstrom still unknown, brown and hagelin arent coming back
- even if the team is sluggish and under .500 throughout november, unless they get like blown out every game dont expect any shakeup to roster/coaching

Send down CMM at this point he doesnt even have to clear waivers.

Well whatever, but quitting on him was someone else’s observation.

lol @ “fireable offense”…

we are old because that’s the roster GMBM assembled and we have average youth depth who can’t grab roster spots from vets.….

Hypothetical: No Backstrom, Brown, or Hagelin. Everyone else is healthy, all prospects are available, and NAK has returned from his inevitable suspension. What are your lines?

-good to start getting guys back

I went to the game Wednesday night and it was awful. Didn’t go last night but it was awesome. Played with a lot more speed in the neutral zone. Lots of great bump passes and fast zone entries. So we have the talent. Still think motivation is an issue. Milano adds some much needed speed and plays with urgency and is talented in front of the net. He is now an important part of the team like Strome.

NAK, Gus, Irwin……absolute wastes of space on our roster. Lavi is ridiculous. He needs to be fired. Watch him continue to sit CMM and AA the entirety of the rest of the season for scrub plugs.

Not sure, but it doesn’t include NAK

I agree, but what I'm getting at is that we've had some guys maybe play their way into more permanent roles and there aren't really enough spots for wings.

Actual line combos aside, in a world where Protas, Milano, Sheary, and MoJo have all played well enough to start, where do you put them all?

Ovechkin - Kuznetsov - Wilson
Milano - Strome - Mantha
Johansson - Eller - Oshie
Sheary - Dowd - Hathaway

Do you sit Milano at a point-per-game given the way he's clicked in the lineup? Do you give up Protas' size and board work? MoJo and Sheary have both been good, and we need their speed. And all of these guys have been getting to the net, which has been in short supply across the board for us.

Yes, there'll likely always be injuries and any of these guys sitting occasionally isn't going to hurt anything. I know this. I'm just curious about how folks here are feeling about these guys and who they'd sit if we were healthy; how we're ranking their performance lately.

And it's a discussion that has nothing to do with McMichael, so that'll be nice. ;)
