I think Hutson returns to BU but if they go Cinderella now and take Hockey East and the Natty there won't be much to return for. Yegorov gives them that chance IMO. Neither may be at BU long at this rate. That said, as dynamic and active as Hutson likes to be there should be an anticipated period of adjustment going up against grown ass men defensively. He won't be afforded the luxury of switching off now and then, nor the ability to so often stay so far forward at that.

I wonder if the idea of extending Chychrun changes somewhat with the season Hutson is having...especially since they have yet to add any real PK role for #6. He's much bigger and more stout, of course, but it at least gives them a degree of leverage should talks not progress.

Rushing him isn't their style so the spring of '26 seems like the earliest but who knows? If he and BU crushes the rest of the season he and they may need to at least think about signing and taking the next step.

They also haven’t had a talent on D worth rushing since Carlson at 20.

Playoffs 2026 seems like a reasonable timeline. What would be interesting is if he wants to sign early.

I think Hutson returns. He's actually been having a worse season than Lane had, and Lane returned. (Although, he's really turned it on since WJC so he could end up with comparable numbers.)

And I've been saying for a while, any deal the Caps sign with Chychrun has to either be very short or one they can move in a year or two.

Somehow I forgot about this game but at least I saved time not watching a loss but will still catch up on the game with a lack of NHL games. Congrats to Hutson.

Though Perreault certainly got his points this season did notice some regression compared to last season. Fell in love with his shot a bit too much where he would have passed last year with questionable results.

Yeah, my comment was a bit tongue in cheek but certainly a possibility. I would like to see Hutson play another year of college as well. I don’t think he is an AHL guy… straight to NHL for playoffs 2026 as @CapitalsCupReality mentioned.

I don’t think Hutson should impact what we do with Chychrun. I do think it impacts an extension for Fever which is why he is a candidate to move in offseason. Or the one after which he will be a RFA and someone will trade for that and the contract is theirs. Sandin and Chychrun aren’t going anywhere and Hutson will be cost controlled for three years.

I haven't really watched any BU this year outside of game highlights. Hutson seems to play like a 4th forward in what I've seen, from anyone who has watched him more, how is his defensive side of the game? Nothing stood out to me in the WJC, but that side of a defenseman's game is usually takes a bit longer to develop.

Nice thing is that Hutson would be eligible to play in the AHL next season at age 19 if he were to sign. So it doesn't necessarily have to be NHL or bust.

I have no idea if he'd be A) open to that, and/or B) would 'need' that professional development time.
