Tough opponent tonight. Leafs played them fairly well last time in their building, winning 4-3 in OT. It would be nice to sweep this home stand before heading into Pittsburgh tomorrow.

Edit: a win in regulation time would put us two points ahead of Florida and tied with the Caps for 1st in the east.

Big game. Carberry was PISSED after last game, he tore into his team pretty badly in the post game conference. They have not slowed down either despite losing Ovi, going 7-2-1 after playing the Leafs.

Will miss the game tonight, driving to Pittsburgh.

Hoping for a win tonight and the boys leave enough gas left to win in Pittsburgh tomorrow.

Will be in Pittsburgh this weekend to see the Leafs game Saturday and the Steelers game Sunday with my sons. Would be great to come back to Toronto going 2-0 this weekend at both games! :)

@ACC1224: did you decide to head to Pitt for both as well?

Go Leafs Go!

Go Steelers Go!

And their first line is ridiculous even without Ovechkin. No one saw this coming before the season started.

Dylan Strome on track for a 100+ pt season. To think Chicago just gave him away for free.
And to think we could have signed him as well, had we not invested in Jarnkrok, Jordie Benn and Victor Mete. :help:

Their back end is playing a prominent role in their success, contributing 71 pts so far this year, and 16 goals. Chrychrun is up to 8 already. In comparison, our D has contributed 44 pts this year, Rielly leading the pack with 4 goals. We need to pressure them physically in their own zone to delay their contributions on the attack.

Strome, Wilson and McMichael are all having strong years. I'd counter with the Matthews line, and let JT's group go up against PLD's line. A surprise goal from the bottom two lines tonight would be really nice to see.

I have a feeling that if Wilson starts running roughshod, Reaves will be called on to respond, and if he doesn't, bye bye Ryan.

Honestly don’t know how we don’t take a chance on bringing a 6’3 200lbs Centre from Mississauga.

Considering how weak our Centre depth is, it should have been a no brainer to go after him when Chicago didn’t qualify him.

No idea how you pass on that opportunity….

What a great weekend! Enjoy and safe travels.

Was the highest scoring team, Leafs 2nd stingiest team. Should be a good test.

He was UFA. Anywhere that he actually wanted to go could have theoretically signed him (though he wouldn't be getting as much opportunity or as many PP points here, and he now costs 5m). But for the record, removing league minimum non-roster depth defensemen doesn't increase available cap to sign more expensive roster players. The money would have had to come from elsewhere.

The last time these teams teams met these Leafs won. They didn't have Matthews and the Caps did have Ovechkin.

Now Matthews is back and Ovechkin is gone.

Have to take advantage of a weakened Capitals roster, they are still good but they are better with Ovechkin.

If the boys need extra motivation show them the standings, let them see that if they win their next 2 games they are 1st in the eastern conference.

Here is why tonights game is so big.

Florida doesn't play tonight, that doesn't happen again where the Leafs play on a night where Florida doesn't until the 15th, and then It's the 31st I think.

That means there are 3 nights including tonight that the Leafs play where Florida doesn't.

If you can stay ahead of Florida and get to those nights you can start creating distance and creating a cushion at the top of the division.

That's why tonight is HUGE because Florida is NOT losing to SJ tomorrow that's NOT going to happen if it does that's the biggest upset of the season.

It's also why it would have been REALLY great if Philadelphia had not blown a lead with about 5 minutes to go but they did so we are here now.

THANKS PHILADELPHIA THANKS A LOT

Washington lost that game, more than the Leafs won it. They had a 3-1 lead and they coughed it up. But the Leafs are playing better now than they were back then.

Leafs better come ready to play because Washington and specifically Carberry were extremely pissed off after that loss to us.

They have to be one of the biggest surprises this season and have been playing very good hockey.

PLD also likes to run Matthews, there is some bad blood there from his Winnipeg days. Hate that clown

Incredible what Washington's done without Backstrom and Oshie this year. D. Strome (what?) and McMichael have really broken out, cast-offs from other teams like Chychryn and Dubois (and Sandin) have been very decent. Who saw Sandin near the league lead in +/- at this point?

Don't forget Protas too! Great drafting by the Caps. McMichael is a late first rounder and Protas a third rounder. Both Cs that are at, or near, a point per game. Smart picks like that can extend the contention window by a number of years.

If Matthews/Marner are back together I'm not going out on much of a limb predicting another big game for both. I think they are clearly trying to force Berube to keep them together, and I can't really argue.

One of the best playmakers in the league paired with the league's best shooter? Kind of makes sense.

Big game tonight. Leafs need to win their games in hand over Florida and extend their divisional lead. They can also tie Washington in points with a win (they'll have an identical record) and first in the conference. Hopefully they don't lay a stinker like they did with Florida.
