I’m mostly satisfied with the forward group, even the bottom six. Hathaway is good in his role as a 4th line winger and doesn’t really make enough that his contract is a burden. He’s a good kinda psycho to have around and he can kill penalties.

Panik started slow last year, but looked much more comfortable later in the year. I think you give him another look on the 3rd line. Hagelin still has value as a top PKer / defensive forward and would probably be my first choice to move because he can’t shoot the puck at all. But even him I’m fine keeping around. Add in Sprong, McMichael, perhaps a surprise from Hershey like Pinho, AJF, or Malenstyn and we’re pretty set.

I don’t think any moves are coming. Maybe they dumpster dive for one of the remaining forwards like Galchenyuk, Sheary, or Caggiula but for me, it seems like we’re done. None of those guys are that impressive. Galchenyuk especially is nothing special. No defense and doesn’t PK. Seems worthless for a bottom six role IMO. He might be ok on the PP but we have plenty of options there.

What is the realistic plan with McMichael? Is he AHL eligible? I feel like him back in the O is just a waste of a year.

i think that its likely that neither the O nor the A will play next season
I’d venture if that was the case, McMichael would already be loaned to a European team.

The ECHL just recently laid out a plan to play. I think NHL clubs are going to want the AHL to play to get their prospects as much playing time as possible. Only hurdle will be the independently owned teams (Hershey, Chicago, Milwaukee, etc) that have issues with it. My guess is that AHL squads end up playing only a handful of the closest geographical teams and have shortened seasons. So for Hershey they might only play Wilkesbarre, Lehigh Valley, Binghamton, Syracuse, etc. like 5-10 times to cut down on costs.

It is way more difficult to unload players/contracts during the training camp or right before the season than when FA begins. Teams are already built, cap structure of each one is rather clear, some amount of cap space in case something happens during the season is left untouched. They won't be able to find new home for the odd men out and will find themselves in cap trouble. If you do something about overpaid bums on the bottom six you better do it asap.

Drager mentioning that a lot of the remaining FAs are only being offered 1 year, 1 million deals anymore across the league. Thoughts on a Corey Perry deal? I didn't see he was still out there. Played well in the finals, always a pain to play against and annoying for other teams. I'd love to bring him in.

Dadonov
Granlund
Galchenyuk
Soderberg
Athanasiou
Duclair
Brassard
Haula
Sheary

Still a bunch of guys that would be a welcomed addition to this bottom 6

Perry, yes. Also yes to Matt Martin if that's all it takes provided they move out Panik. But Martin may well just be hanging around waiting for the Islanders to sign their RFAs and then taking what he can get to stay...

But it sure seems like Jensen will be the player moved. They had a media availability for LaDue and mentioned the number he'll wear so it sure sounds like he'll not just be a Hershey player. (Although he said that sort of talk hasn't taken place.)

I have been banging the drum for a 3rd line of Galchenyuk-Eller-Duclair for a while know. I know it means Hagelin and Panik have to move, but that is a great upgrade.

I think seeing the explosion of virus both in NA and in Europe is what I am considering. My view is an MLB style taxi squad for call ups. I would expect McMichael to be in that group getting local instruction

The O is already gearing up to play.
I agree with you on the A

The O is gearing up to play with no contact allowed...

Even if well-intentioned, I don't know how that will help (and perhaps hinder) NHL-destined prospects. I understand that most of the players in the O will not play in the NHL, but its probably best to ship the ones that most likely will off somewhere else. Edit: or keep them on the NHL team.

For the Caps, I think the only one affected will be McMichael.

Isn’t Duclair the one Torts ripped into for not being a 200 ft player? Duclair has offensive upside but if he isn’t going to be semi competent at defending he isn’t going to get a spot in the bottom six. Sprong seems to be a very similar player anyway

I feel like that's a lot of money to move out when it seems like teams are pretty much done spending. Looks like everyone went and got what they absolutely wanted/needed and now would be content with what they have and are only willing to add dirt cheap deals based on the uncertainty of the market.

I feel like if there is a move made it'll only be 1. Defense seems like the obvious move here but I'd rather hang onto Nick. But imo this team absolutely needs something more out of that third line than what Hags is going to give you. At this point he gives you 2 shut down lines because he couldn't hit the back of the net if his life depended on it. Ideally I'd like to see Hags moved and fill his cap space with 2 forwards. Perry and Galchenyuk are my wants. Gives you flexibility going up and down lines and C/W flexibility as well.

I guess my stance on Sprong is im just not ready to hand him a 3rd line or even 4th line spot on a cup contending team based off a mini camp. I view him as the perfect 13th guy (if he earns it).

He obviously has to earn it. I don’t think he’s guaranteed anything. My point is that he’s a very similar player to Duclair based on the fact that they have good wheels and skill but aren’t exactly known for their defensive zone play. I’d rather have a Martin or a Perry who are more physical and can grind down the opposition. Perry was on pace last year for 30 points and is just an overall pain in the ass to play against

Duclair has some value, Galchenyuk offers nothing. I'd much prefer Hagelin-Eller-Panik. Duclair is a nice goal scorer, but he a liability defensively. Galchenyuk just flat out sucks, he really doesn't offer much especially at even strength. He gets his points on the powerplay, and there's not really room for him here on the PP.

I love what Perry would bring here. He's one of those Wilson types where you hate him unless he plays for you. My biggest gripe with last year's roster construction was that everyone pretty much had a penciled in spot and role and there was no wiggle room. Hathaway and Leipsic were sure fire 4th line guys. Panik and Hagelin were both 3rd line wings. Neither are middle 6 guys. Guys like Perry and Galchenyuk give you that ability to move matchups around, which is where we found the most success before.

What exactly do people here see in Galchenyuk that i seem to be missing? He just isnt good and id much rather keep hagelin/panik over him.

I continue to be baffled by the Galchenyuk love as well. He's not good. Sprong/McMichael could offer the same offense as him. Panik is a more complete player and Hagelin can play defense and penalty kill. He's the type of player that should be in the top 6 of a bad team getting powerplay time. He should not be on this roster lol
