The adjustments thing is strange for me.

All coaches can technically be called out for failing to "adjust" when the team is losing and they continue to lose.

I don't know how fair that is.

Just take last game for example. The Avs did not look good in the 1st period against L.A. They go into the break and come out for the final 40 looking like a completely different team and dominated the Kings.

Last night looked like the Avs players as a whole didn't have anything. No legs, no flow, no engagement. A coach can't force those things.

Bednar not making adjustments (the blender doesn’t count) is a constant. The bad goaltending is more common than good goaltending. So really, the only difference is that the top guys had a bad night
I didn't want to go there but Bednar lacking in-game adjustments is costing us wins. Maybe not a win last night but at least some successful adjustments that would have made for a more enjoyable watch.

On the balance I don't think Bednar is a good "bench boss" and he loses more than his share of tactical in game battles. His qualities are more "long range" over the course of a season.

It has cost us playoff series. He crumbled just as much as the team in that Vegas series
He's a coach that is very rigid in his system and wants his team to fine tune his system and always play the same way, as opposed to a a coach that wants his team to be able to play many styles and adjust to the opponent faced.

I don't think it's an adjustment thing, but moreso his system, which is pretty finicky to have work properly in the first place, is starting to become stale. And the game plan is always the same against every team, which is why we struggle against certain teams/coaches

I think part of the issue is that he still runs a transition heavy system, but the defense is significantly worse at moving the puck up ice and the forwards are less capable of getting it into the ozone with control. That leads to a lot more turnovers and a lot more time stuck in our own end

This performance scares me for Monday when I'm at the game. It wasn't just the goalies this game, though it's reasonable to assume the team played more aggressively with the deficit. Some terrible coverage though on a couple of those goals.

Agreed with this. We don't have the team to run a puck possession / transition heavy team anymore. When the Avs did that, they had Byram playing lights out, Toews at peak form and Manson was younger. Plus the forwards were deep, with Lekh on the third line.

This team needs to be a grind and energy team that capitalizes on mistakes, not trying to carry the puck as a unit.

I have 2 critiques of the Bednar 'system.'

1) It only works if all 20 players are a perfect fit. The arrival of Kadri more or less generated the perfect roster for the 'system.' CMac has been unable to provide that narrow perfect roster ever since. Ritchie is an excellent example. He's tearing it up in the OHL. When he was in Denver, he showed that he has very strong potential to make it to the NHL. But where on this Avs team? He does not fit a Bednar bottom 6, and there is no room in the top 6.

2) The 'system' is not dynamic. There is one way and only one way. The rest of the league has caught on to 'the system' and come prepared. This is amplified in the playoffs when the Avs play the same team 4 to 7 times in a 2 week period. Other teams know the zone exit strategies, the pinching of D-Men ( which allows way too many odd-man rushes) and both the PK and PP sets.

I actually have no issues with the philosophy of ' the system' with the correct roster. Ironically, the issue is the way Bednar implements a system that he essentially created. This is especially true when the opposing coach makes adjustments mid-game. Or when a team forechecks when the Avs have possession in their D Zone. Or when a team parks the bus. This has been true since Day 1 of Bednar's term.

Has Bednar ever been this hard on Georgiev?

I will continue to believe that George has some compromising photos of Bednar or something. There's no other way.
I feel like Bednar is the same way he is with Georgiev that he was with Compher & Graves - those guys could just do no wrong.

Sure Annunen was bad yesterday but I think I would have been bad too - after starting the season with 5 wins and being WAY better than the actual starter (when Justus started games rather than come in cold in relief) and being inexplicably replaced for no reason and giving start after start to the other guy.

Georgiev was putrid to start the season - and is responsible for our poor record in a major way but Bednar goes back to him every time like nothing happens. Even when he lets in goals from ridiculous angles - it's the team that needs to 'play better'. Ridiculous.

I still like him as a coach but these 'blinders' are getting really annoying for us as fans - imagine how much worse it must be as players on that team.

Feels like CMac is going to have to take the decision away from him by making a trade but I think that was gonna happen anyway.

How did george get hurt anyways? On one of the FIVE shots on net in the last 40 minutes vs LA??

I kinda feel like Bednar’s attitude toward Annunen changed dramatically after that goal he gave up following Kelly’s heroic block-fest. He seemed REALLY pissed after the game that JA gave that one up. Before he wasn’t exactly using the kid gloves but he really let him have it last night.

There are many instances where the system doesn’t look right but this game was not an example of that. In fact the exact opposite was true last night.

The bottom six (especially Kelly) were their best players last night and that’s obviously not a recipe for success. The top players all looked disjointed and out of sync. The stars just didn’t show up. It happens.

I also don’t agree that it stifles creativity. I would like more of a push for net front presence and creating offense below the hash marks but it’s a very dynamic system. Again, no system works when the top players are losing every single race and battle for the puck.

It's pretty obvious that Bednar doesn't trust him. He never did.
