GDT: Caps at Isles

Caps fan coming in peace. Thanks to your fanbase in the arena for the respect (and patience).

Patel was at the previous Caps home game, I saw someone say that Gretzky invited him, though I don't know if that's truthful. And a Caps fan I know has seen Patel playing beer league hockey in the DC area.

The Capitals’ announcers are probably more disappointed
The Caps actually requested, and received permission, for the Caps' regular announcers to call the game live, even if it wasn't being broadcasted. There are clips out there now of their call of 895. It does kinda suck for 'your guy' (Brendan Burke?), this is certainly the type of scenario that will go down in history and potentially elevate someone's career.

Lastly, where the F did this Gatcomb guy come from? :DD

Best of luck rest of the way to your goals.

Oh I 100% know the orders from that ceremony did not come from Lou. Just like Lou did not tell that PR Department to make that tweet about the Capitals scoring.

I was deliberately making an obtuse point to show how ridiculous it is that Lou is telling the team what to tweet.
Nobody is suggesting that Lou is literally hovering over the social media intern’s shoulder and monitoring their messages as they type - that’s a strawman argument.

He literally makes the players cut their hair a certain way, playing a direct role in their personal grooming. You think he’s above being involved in the external messaging that the team conveys to the rest of the world?

If the intern tweets something that is contradictory to the Lou brand, it’s going to get deleted.

Sorry I think there is a misunderstanding here. I agree with your message 100%. We have some posters here that genuinely believe Lou is in charge of things like hiring people in public relations.

If that’s being said, then I agree with you.

Although, maybe he was busy sifting through resumes and didn’t have time to trade Palmieri at the deadline.

Very cool to see history like this.

When you take a step back...Really sucks it was against us. This will be watchied forever. We've endured so much shit the past 30 years. Would be nice to make history ourselves.
We almost did. Few months back The Isles had the worst PK in NHL history at 63%

While the Isles didn't have shot many shots on Lindgren, they certainly did a lot of damage. Although it initially sucked to see Ovi to break the NHL goal scoring record against the Isles at home, it was also cool to see history live on TNT via Sportsnet, as this was the first game I saw where it stopped before the end to commemorate history being made, and good for the Isles to get back with Gatcomb's second of the game soon after Ovi's 895.

Good stuff, love that guy.

Isles charging $45 for a printed ticket stub for today. What an embarrassment.
Quick follow up. Looks like season ticket holders and premium ticket holders will be getting a free stub. Still embarrassing stuff.

Could have been a cool gift for all those there the isles could have branded and given out. Can’t imagine it would have cost that much.

nothing will ever be more valuable to me than the stub that my dad had from 1980 game 6 vs flyers. This one i can just keep in my phone to say i was there, maybe print it on paper but its not the same.

How upset must Brendan Burke be that he didn't get to announce Ovi's 895th goal. It's his home team so he had a 95% chance of being the announcer for it and his voice would've gone down in history. Literally an announcer's dream to get a call like that.
He's probably happy to hand it over. I say this because he seems like a professional.

Yea. Was at the game and I was rooting for Ovi to get it, at least partially cuz I got a few warm up pucks I know are worth a bundle, but in retrospect not sure it is a good thing, Isles will be forever tied to this in a negative way, for Sorokins psyche it probably has to be a bad thing as that is what he is now known for in the NHL and who knows how that will effect him going forward, yea not sure I should have been as happy as I was that he got it

Well if it was local broadcaster they more likely would have used the Caps feed for history's purposes

As Somebody who is just at the point of realizing we have 0 chance to make the playoffs what a disappointing game

First of all we get 2 points ruining our chances of finishing 9th worst and putting the Rangers in our sites so we might now finish 13th worst(currently at 11). I guess only positive thing if we finish 12th or 13th is if we somehow by a longshot win the lottery that makes our draft choice rather easy(ie the defensman will most likely be gone)

I rather not been the Team any milestone is reached against especially one as significant as most goals ever. Nothing against Ovie but he has scored enough goals against us he could have found another team to get his record with. lol

ETA wow looks like we actually might have been one of the tougher teams Ovie played

72 GP
45 G
24 A
69 P

While that places us his 12th best you have to remember alot of west coast teams that only played a handful of games. I guess maybe this was OVi's payback. lol

I still have 1 puck that I caught during a game (Bob Kelly of PHI shot and Chico blockered it into the stands, right to me - didn't even hurt  ). That one had an Isles logo on it.

I have a handful of pucks from warmups, but in the old days they had various markings, I think Cosby Sporting Goods most common. Do they now mark them with dates or something?

Two in one game - that's pretty good. Hip-checked some little kid out of the way to get those? ;)

I can't believe there's people annoyed that he broke the record against us. A record no one believed would ever be broken, a Gretzky record, was broken in our building. Idk if you guys realize this, but that's the most memorable moment at UBS history so far in 5+ years. Not a Robert Bortuzzo 2OT goal to stave off a sweep. Says a lot about the success (lack thereof) of our own team in that span.

I'm delighted it happened in our building, our fans got to see history firsthand, and would sign up for it again a thousand times.
