GDT: Caps and Sabres 3:00 PM

Was at the game. It was packed. Good fan energy for a lot of it. Every time OV got it, shot it, place was loud. Especially when he scored. Bananas.

As a team, it was just bad. The Dee in particular was bad. Fever and Roy in particular. Despite his two goals, I saw JC6 on the ice for many goals against.

Really thought we were going to climb back in after PLD goal from OV. But we just kept giving up goals.

I was there too, and got fairly intoxicated / am about to partake in enjoying the devil’s lettuce before I fall asleep. Weird game. Felt like every mistake or failed clear ended up in the Caps net. It was consistently a one step forward, two steps back kind of night. Thompson was clearly frustrated, it felt like any good luck he had this season was taken out against him in one game.

I will never wear the black screaming eagle to a game again. It’s my favorite jersey but I’m pretty sure they’re 0-7 or something like that when I wear it to a game, including losses this year to the Sabres, Sharks, Flames, and Blues.

Dowd got away with punching a guy in the head as he lay on the ice behind the play. Not sure if they showed that on TV but it looked pretty bad IRL.

In a related note, Dowd is a pretty stout dude.
I saw it! The areana did. Couldn’t believe he didn’t get called for that. Face washed dudes head right into the ice!

Bummer. At least we got Chych/Pro and OV milestones

It's as if some Caps fans don't understand the basics of the last 10-15 games of a long, grueling season.

Your team isn't going undefeated.
Your team isn't going to give 100% every game for 82 games.
Eliminated teams love to play spoiler, are loose, young guns are getting opptys
Spoilers happen pretty much every day down the stretch

As much as Carbs can get this team motivated for most every game, sometimes it just ain't happening
Just be happy it's against BUF in a game that doesn't matter at all, instead of in a couple weeks

Complaining about losing to bottom dwellers down the stretch hearkens back to the early era OV days when at home games a disturbingly large amount of Caps fans didn't know the basics of offside or icing

It's a meaningless game and result, and only becomes meaningful if it continues over a cpl more games

This is one of the main reasons the "President's Trophy curse" is a thing...
- #1 East seed is guaranteed and there's no real motivation down the stretch
- cheat comes into the game
- heading into the Playoffs w/no motivation is bad mmmmkay
- if Caps were tied w/CAR or lower they'd have something to play for
- it's about ramping up to head into the Playoffs, not maintaining

This is why I and a few others don't mind some adversity, don't mind a little losing streak

Rd.1 is the craziest round in the Playoffs and when "Will vs. Skill" upsets happen regularly

[/rant over for now, maybe] ;) :baghead:

Gee thanks Dad, but that’s some BS. Every game has those idiots, but let’s not pretend like the fans didn’t know hockey before Ovechkin (or that someone complaining about the Buffalo result doesn’t know hockey). Not sure who complained enough to offend you, but it’s one game. Lost and move on.

And no…..huuuuuuge pass on picking up a losing streak as we head towards the playoffs. F that nonsense, because losing is contagious.

Yeah, I understand the impulse but no. Winning begets winning. More winning please.

Well Leonard will be moving into the lineup so this brings extra motivation to a lot of guys who could end up on nacho duty. Plus a positive shot in the arm getting a new exciting player in the lineup.

Now we can mess with lines a bit.

I went to a lot of games 2007-2011 and holy cow we had a lot of ignorant fans back then, the majority? obv not, but they were loud and proud and painfully dumb

And didn't say I want a losing streak heading into the Playoffs, quite the opposite, I (and everyone) want to ramp up to head to the postseason... Losing gm71-72 isn't a big deal, it's how you come back after those gms... and gms 80-82 I absolutely want to crush the souls out of our opponents, show no mercy, and dominate them into submission

Nothing worse than losing b/c of Will vs. Skill and many PT winners have made 1st rd exits thinking their talent will rise above

Stay humble and hungry (which is what adversity and losing some games here-and-there can teach quite well)

Yeah, he was bad. At least 3 maybe 4 were on him being subpar. He wasn’t the only one.

You score 5 goals at home to a non playoff team you should win.
Strongly disagree. Only one goal he probably should have stopped, which was the backhander shot. The Sabres were given too much time to get very good quality shots. I might add LT was 5 days between starts. To have that many days in between starts throws any #1 goalie off rhythm!

It was 6-5 at that point. The 7th Sabres goal was another deflection perfectly into the top corner. LT had the original angle on the shot and then it changes direction. The 8th goal was an empty netter.

Be all of that as it may, when you give up 7, it's an off night. Carbs should have pulled him, if for no other reason than to kick the rest of the team in the ass, but Thompson didn't play well either.
