The team is "Ahead of schedule" but Hughes has a lot of work to do in order to build a contender.

Byfield always had huge raw talent as a prospect. He can dangle 5guys before scoring. Rarely seeing Slaf going for it threw the middle stickhandling. Can’t compare the two, except for size and draft status..

I've ragged on slaf as much as anyone, but this is incorrect. At the same age Byfield was a scrub, he wasn't dangling jack shit, literally looked llke he didn't belong in the NHL. Slaf is MILES ahead of Byfield at the same age

Guhle was just penalized for hitting a player before he touched the puck.

This was an either/or from ref and he chose neither one and pretended he didn't see the cross check.

Not like the Guhle play.

Caps player just stood his ground at center ice. He’s entitled to that ice, doesn’t have to make way for Laine. He barely moved from his spot, unlike Guhle.

Also, it’s not either/or from “ref”. Two separate gray area decisions. One by the ref, the other by a linesman.

I’m fine with the no call on Laine. Would have been the softest penalty imaginable in this particular game.

I think the linesman messed up because D didn’t attempt to play the puck. Doesn’t matter that Laine doesn’t touch it.

All 6 players could have prevented that goal and the play was, what, 5 seconds?

- faceoff wasn’t won
- Demi and Laine soft stickwork
- Lane lost coverage (probably biggest mistake)
- Guhle fell down. Would have been on top of passer, otherwise.
- monte could have stopped it.

Plus errors leading up to icing. It was a terrible 20-30 seconds of hockey.

Also, Byfield only scored 3 more points than Slaf this season, same number of 5 on 5 points. They’re basically at the same stage right now and Slaf is younger. Crazy how some people sees other team’s players in better light than their own.

Can someone with knowledge answer this. Do the refs have a boss who reviews their performance each night. Those guys should know every f***ing call they missed and strive to do better. Bush league that it wasn't called an icing at the end. If they have any pride in their work they'd want to not make that mistake again.

Well, no.

Its a small sample size, so its not worth a lot.

Laine is having one of the worst seasons of his career after having missed a full calendar year, and Demidov is just getting his feet wet in the nhl, so both could look very different next season.

Their center won't be Newhook, so that will also completely change the dynamic of that line.

I don't think Habs are the team to do it but based on tonight, I can't see the Cape faring well against a team built to win. They got pretty fortunate on their goals tonight and basically stopped playing once the Habs got a goal.
