Post-Game Talk: Capitals win game 1, lead series 1-0

Youngest team ever in the playoffs.
Tonight they learned what playoff intensity is all about.
Tonight they found out they could hang with the Caps.
This team never gives up.
Next game they'll be ready.
This could be a hard fought series.

Go :habs Go
Certainly can’t predict that we’re gonna win this series, but I think I can predict with 100% certainty that it will indeed be hard fought!

Great game. Nice 3rd period push.

Same thing tonight on comments with Caufield as there was with Slaf the other night. It’s like people don’t watch the actual game. Great game from Cole.

Full marks to the Capitals and glad we kept pushing back. Ovechkin is a God.

Awesome game from Montie. It could’ve got out of hand early but he kept us in. Terrific game from him.s a
it's sad that scum like Ovechkin are allowed to play in the NHL.

Just felt like we were battling the refs all night too. That one hurt cause I’m not sure they can play any better. When the Icing wasnt waved off it felt like we were going to lose.

Hutson is our most talented and game breaking d-man but Guhle is a number 1. What a player, guess players.

I need to remind myself these playoffs are a bonus to our year but just hate losing games we should’ve won. I will say caps looked slower than us after period 1.

Once again people looking for a scapegoat and it seems to fall on Laine and Matheson.

Laine had a solid game. Matheson not so much.

You want to know who also had a bad game? Our golden boys Demidov and defensively Hutson as well.

Some people have really pathetic takes.

Overall a great first game.
Is Demidov the veteran that makes $9m a year? Or is he the guy playing his 3rd NHL game?

I couldn't write in Canadiens area for an hour, what the hell happened?

Second line is our kryptonite.

It was a scramble play with a puck knocked out of mid air. Not really the point, these are supposed to be the best officials in the world and that icing was a travesty.

Honestly, all game the linesmen were brutal. How many faceoffs are they holding the puck and tossing guys. It's too much, just do your job.

Just doesn't sit well with me, for the boys to battle back like that and have just a ridiculous icing call cost them a game.
It's their fault for not playing 3/4 of the game and getting into that situation. Seriously looked like regular-season Montreal Canadiens the entire game, yes even when they tied it 2-2.

Lots of lessons for them to take from this game.. but A Lot of positives also!

Caps came out hard! threw everything they had at us and we weathered the storm, turned the tables and took it to overtime.. 1st line took over, and Hutson with a big 2 apple performance.. really wanted to be right about him scoring the ot winner tonight lol

but I cant be mad at this one... even a little... they showed they can run with the big dogs and the caps showed they are easily beatable.. as long as they play with the same kind of effort and game as this one .. one or 2 non bullshit calls from the refs goung our way and we are very in this series! exciting to see!

whatever happens, as long as they play with the effort of tonight ill be happy.. this team will be contending soon enough!

They got Ref'd game1 in Caps building. Nothing really surprising, but frustrating.

They can easily regroup for game 2. They almost won that game with all those bounces and calls going against them. They were by far the best team in the 3rd period.

Get mad, get thirsty for blood. Go and win game2. Go back home with a 1-1 tie.

And he was brutal on key face offs whether it be in o zone or d zone, even though I don’t fully blame him on that last faceoff the support didn’t come but that speaks to the line. Unfortunately they’re going to need to mix up bottom three lines if they want secondary offense generated from ok defense
Habs won over 60% of faceoffs but yeah Newhook had a tough time 37%

Bad icing call maybe, Laine rah rah rah, but Guhle could've chosen better options. He had all the time in the world to either skate it up or pass it to Newhook who was facing the play and skating forward.

I'm not blaming Guhle, because it's not a mistake, but it's small decisions like that, that make a difference in the playoffs. It's about managing the percentage of risks in taking a decision or the other.
