Post-Game Talk: Capitals win game 1, lead series 1-0

Bieksa already brought up moving Demidov to Suzuki's line and he's right. We've got arguably the most talented pure scorer on a line with a streaker and a powerplay merchant.

Only thing I hate is moving Slaf down to their line.
Don’t touch the first line. It is what it is. Let Demidov do his best. Next year we’ll get a better option at center.

They need to scratch Laine and or Slafkovsky and find someone who can actually be useful in some part of the game.

Both players are waste of a spot on the playing roster.

Ridiculous. Laine was one of the best players, skated very well, kept the puck, played hard, tried to create chances, than one icing makes him enemy #1. But it's easiest to blame everything on him.

@the was hoping that an Amish Laine was going to be the key to delivering but sadly, it didn't happen. Maybe his production will unlock in time for next game.

Yeah I can get behind Kapanen for Newhook. I’m sorry but the guy brings nothing other than speed. Can’t win a faceoff, can’t shoot, has chemistry with literally no one on the team.
Kapanen would get absolutely eaten alive. He was soft as baby shit in his last couple games which got him out of the lineup. Nothing we can really do about this second line. There's nobody else and the other lines are working.

It's clear that in the end, when it will be time to compete...Matheson and Laine cannot be near that lineup. And Newhook can't center a line...not even sure a 3rd at this point.
When all is said and done the post season de-brief will certainly take everything into account.

Great showing! We will lose this series, but the kids will grow so much! The summer will be A-MAZING!
Disappointing result after the comeback. But they didnt give up except for laine but wsh got help on all 3 goals. If im a caps fan i wouldnt be too cocky after this win. Great learning experience

Patrik Laine vs Chicago Blackhawks: Shooting his penalty shootout instead of waiting for the challenge

Patrik Laine vs Washington Capitals: Wasting the puck (instead of clear the puck) allowing them to stay in our zone

Newhook should be using his speed on the wing. But it is what it is right now
Yeah, I know...I mean people also who wants to change the line....you do not change the vet line. So it leaves to move Evans, Armia and Heineman with Laine, Newhook and Demidov. So you do what...Evans center Laine and Newhook. So Heineman, Demidov and Armia? lolll

Pretty good game. It was tight and the teams ended up pretty even overall. The Habs showed they can compete in this series.

Guhle and Carrier had great games. Hutson didn't cover Ovi on the game winning goal and he knew he made a mistake there.

First line was clutch as usual.

Demidov barely touched the puck, no shots, minus 2. Ice time around 12 minutes. He had a really good first game, but even with limited ice time, I'm expecting a game breaker to at least have a few dangerous shifts.

On to game two!
In Re Demidov : Not surprised at all. Reg Season Int'l rink size to NHL Playoffs NA rink size is a sizeable adaptation, especially when you're game is at least somewhat cerebral.

I don’t see much of a choice. As soon as that play was called icing I knew the game might be over with that line in the Dzone and Ovie on the ice. Newhook well below 50% faceoff in his career. I doubt will happen but the line was on for 2 goals against.

When is the last time he made a good play for a teammate ? He drives but he crashes into a tree everytime he takes the wheel. I would not mind him on a 4th line but he's not even close to be a top 6 player.

Those 11 assists , ya know

Like a slow week for an actual play driver

Newhook 1 playoff goal in 28 games
Laine's fault. I can't wait until these two are off the top 6. One moves like he's got 2 broken legs who shat his pants while the other has the hockey IQ of a Neanderthal skating a million miles an hour. These two have such bad chemistry that they shouldn't even be next to each other on the team plane or dinners.
