Post-Game Talk: Capitals @ Rangers 3/24/13

Why Richards? What the **** does Richards ever do in the shootout? You have Marian Gaborik, you have ****ing chris kreider who can rip it and you put a neutered brad richards on the ice? WHY?! What the **** do you expect from Brad Richards? What do you expect from him? because he's ****ing BRAD RICHARDS? like... is that the only reason? If I change my name to Brad mother ****ing Richards, can I take a shot in the SO?
 
Freakin' joke.

Honestly, it was a great hockey game. But, I continue to ask: why is Richards being given chance after chance after chance?

He hasn't earned it. He's slow, weak, and bad defensively. THen, he goes in the shootout and singlehandedly ends the game with a porous attempt.

Where is the accountability that Torts loved the preach in his first go-around here? Richards is accountable for a lot of this team's offensive struggles, but, of course, he gets a pass.

Sounds like another high priced FA center that wore #19. :shakehead
 
My 3 stars (in no particular order):

Step
Asham
Cally

Richards must have incriminating photos of Torts from the Christmas party. There's no other reason why he should have gone over Gaborik or even Kreider in the shootout.
 
Henrik looked disgusted today. From some of his more recent interviews, I feel that he isn't too happy with the team.

Overall, we couldn't match them man for man in the shootout. They have a lot more individual talent then us up front.

Nash's move is scouted, Holtby knew what was happening before he even made his first move. And of course, our $12 million center, who I can't even remember scoring a shootout goal with us, failed us again (he used to be a shootout ace in the NHL).

Tortorella pushes Gaborik to the third line? And keeps him on the LW? Idiot. Gaborik, Callahan and Nash were our best forwards today. And Gaborik got punished? I still can't find the words for that.

Bench your boy Richards. At least Gaborik has looked good the last five or six games. Richards doesn't even generate chances...
 
Effort was there, coaching lost this game. I'll post it here.

1) Richards over Gaborik?
2) Kreider our best player, gets no ice time in OT.
3) 4th line saves this team from a devastating loss, barely sees the ice for the rest of the game. Also only line that could muster a goal 5 on 5.
4) Eminger? Why so much ice time for Eminger? Constant giveaways. 4 or 5 blatant ones tonight. Yet he is out there for the last shift of the game and the 1st shift of the OT.
 
I'm just upset that a good hockey game had to be marred by a dumb decision on Torts part. Sigh.
 
Awful. Same old ****. Slow start (I consider myself lucky not having see them fall behind 2-0), no offense, shockingly horrible defense for a defense first team. Consider our two goals were an Aaron Asham snipe (!), not the exactly the model of sustainability, and a flukey 5-3 goal. A 5-3, and we needed a flukey goal.

Gaborik plays well, gets buried with Boyle. Kreider plays well, doesn't play a second of OT. 4th line saves the game. Buried in the 3rd period Brad Richards plays horrible. Never misses a shift. Plays as much OT as anybody. 4th shooter on the shootout. The John Tortorella Fake Merit system in a nutshell. **** him.
 
The psychos are going to be out tonight, but really, a very good game by both teams. We just lost in a shootout.
 
We get a point and torts proves he still doesnt know dick.

4th line barely plays after giving us all the momentum with the goal.
Kreider barely (if any?) plays in OT.

sigh, another coaching gem.

Guy Boucher?

What has he done? That one season in 11 was such a fluke. You think Tortorella is a bad coach? Watch Boucher.
 
That one point covers up the fact that the only reason this team had 2 goals was an Asham snipe and Holtby misplaying a centering attempt.

Still major problems finishing. Not good.

Good example of how absurd the anti-torts hyperbole has gotten. He knows the team on a level none of us can dream of. Get real. Gaborik isn't good in the shootout. Richards was a gamble just like any shooter past Nash and Callahan would be. Putting Step third was smart and it worked.

You can absolutely do worse than 8th/9th and top 5 defense in the league statistically. Boucher has already done worse this year. He was just fired for doing worse.
