I keep hearing from Friedman on his podcast and various NHL Network Radio shows say that the Canucks are prepared to offer Tocchet the largest coaching contract... in TEAM history. This all seems like lip service to tell the fans "hey, we tried" when he inevitably goes to Philly.
If I were him I'd have no interest in staying. I'm not sure what's in the water in the pacific northwest, but running NHL teams sure ain't their specialty
What happened this year had very little to do with the management. The team lost their #1 goalie for 67 games, their top two dmen for a combined 35 games, their #1 centre had a horrible year due to injuries and being unable to train, their other #1 got cheated, played like shit, took a leave of absence then took it out on the #1 centre.
They then trade JT and turned that into a #3 Dman, a solid RHD and a solid 2-3 centre in Chytil.
Then to top it off, EP finally gets his game back with the team 1 point out of the playoffs and 12 games to go only to lose Chytil and EP for the season.
I mean Christ I get that it's fun to kick a rival when they are down but very few teams would be able to survive all of that.
Bottom line is the team has 25 million in cap, everyone's healthy, and lots of picks and prospects to add too the forward group to go with a very strong goalie tandem and one of the best Dcorps in the league. If Tochett wants to win he's got a much better chance than with NYR or Philly.
Also as a kings fan, I wouldn't throw stones when it comes to shitty management, considering all the shit trades, signings and drafting Blake has done.
Kings are a paper tiger who very well will be entering another rebuild shortly
