Which new winger is going to outperform their contract the most this season?

I think Sprong is an easy pick if he can play Tocchet hockey and stay on the ice. New career high of 50 points?
Heinen should be good for 20 goals and 45 points if he can contribute at even strength. Maybe gets PP2 time?
Sherwood 30 points and part of the best 4th line in hockey?
DeBrusk is getting 30+ goals and 65+ points easy-peasy.


DeBrusk, EP40, Miller, Boes and Hughes as PP1? That is a lethal combination...4 guys that could score 30+ goals/season plus the best defenseman in hockey?

If Boeser indeed has 'blood-clotting' issues from the amount of time he spends flying, then Houston, we have a problem. The longest flight for an NHL team like the Canucks, is no more than five yours. I mean it's not like these guys are flying to Fiji, Japan or Australia.

Boeser is a UFA at the end of this upcoming season.....and even if he comes close to 40 goals again this season (unlikely) then the Canucks are in a tough spot. Do they re-up him with a raise on his current $6.650m salary; trade him; or let him walk in free agency? The latter is likely to never happen with Allvin and Rutherford at the helm.

From a cap management point of view, it makes sense to let Boeser go if Lekkerimaki looks legit, and I think he will be better than Boeser. You want as many good players as possible for he play-offs, so the Canucks might be in a position where they have to let Boeser walk for nothing.

flying is not an inherent danger when it comes to blood clotting. the danger is flying and then wearing tight pants and not moving. if he is wearing loose clothing and is walking around or just moving his body, it's fine.

source: close one developed blood clots from plane ride and this was what the dr told us.

It's the wrong kind of tight and not moving coupled with intense activity before. Compression gear is highly recommended for older travelers as sometimes you just can't get up and move around on a plane (though do so any chance you get). For a hockey player the getting up and moving around on the plane shouldn't be as big of a deal. It's a spacious charter.

My wife got undiagnosed clots in her leg after doing the 5 day hike into Machu Pichu and flying home. She knew she had leg pain, ignored it and ended up in hospital with pulmonary embolisms a couple weeks later. She was on blood thinners for 6 months.

I was all aboard the Sherwood train before he even signed, so I'm going with him. But honestly, I think we got all those guys to pretty good value deals and I could see them all hitting high on it.

But if I had to pick one, I'm going with Sherwood.

Debrusk is the more likely to stay healthy given his role. PP1 playing with Pettersson and Miller 5v5 i see a career year. 33 goals 30 assists 63pts

Sherwood if he plays 82 could get 30-35pts and for 1.5 with his physicality that's massive surplus value. Will be hard to stay healthy though when you play the way he does at his size. NHL has certainly gone back to big bruising style D if your not top pair quality so laws of physics will not be on his side. 62 games 25pts and lots of hits and intensity

Really happy for Danton Heinen coming home. Hope he gets off to a good start to deflect pressure he will feel with friends and family here. He wont get a long rope with so many capable middle six scorers if he struggles. Went a little silent in last years playoffs for the Bruins also so let's hope he can take another step. If he finds chemistry with Miller/Boeser or Pett/Debrusk he can get 40-45pts. You have to ignore what happened in Anaheim he's a nice complementary top3 line player and underrated playmaker. Prediction is 38pts and given production would be in line with above but he doesn't bring as much off puck. If he is good on the PK and transitioning with Miller Boeser i might have to eat my prediction. Hope so

He's essentially a less talented Kuzmenko and don't expect a lot of patience from Tocchet if he's not making good decisions and moving pucks the way he wants him to. There's a reason he had no contract early in free agency and then got the deal he did. His best chance of being anywhere nesr the top of this list is if we have some injuries to top wingers or others stink. That P/60 is outstanding so he certainly knows what to do in the offensive zone. Will be a great story of personal perseverance if he solidifies himself top6. Not holding my breath

Same here. I think Debrusk if he stays healthy and puts things together (30 goals and ~60 points) he's going to provide surplus value of ~$1.5ish-2ish million)

Sherwood I think there's a bit more offensive upside. He could put together a season that Heinan put up last season.

Heinen is fairly paid. If he puts up a similar season to last season, is he worth much more than what we're paying him? I'm not so sure.

Sprong I hope will produce offensively like he has in the past. But if the past is any indication he's going to end up on the 4th line and or limited minutes. How much is an offensive specialist like Sprong worth? I'm thinking a bit of Sam Gagner here.

I love all the winger signings and think all of them will be + value for their contracts but I am really liking what I am hearing from Sprong so far. He spoke with Tocchet before signing and has known EP40 for a few years plus he has been bouncing around on 1 year contracts.

Two things...to me that means EP40 knows what is expected of himself and also endorses to other players what the Canucks coaching staff expects from their players. Plus if Sprong can play decent D while on the wing with Petey and DeBrusk I think he will line himself for a multi-year contract.

The thing I’m most excited is the internal competition we will have.

I don’t think you can definitively say this or that player will play this or that spot in the line up. The only real locks I see are the third line and Miller + Boeser.

like for instance I don’t think Debrusk and Petey together is a set and stone combination without assessing the chemistry aspect.

U also have Hoglander, Heinen, Sprong, even Sherwood battling out a top 6 spot. Each individual has some sort of skill that could complement the top 2 lines so should be fun to see who ends up playing where.

and tbh, you can completely dismantle the entire forward group save for Miller, Pettersson, Boeser, and Debrusk slotting in the top 2 lines and see what kind of line combinations work with the rest. that’s the type of depth we have. besides blueger, you can quite literally play any forward anywhere in the line up.

Edmonton will still be favorites but it's hard to read into the forward situation.

Skinner, Arvidsson and Henrique are guys who have scored 30 goals at some point in their career and have shown to be reliable 50+ point guys. These guys are in their 30's and injury prone though.

Vancouver's new guys are younger and have shown flashes of potential but have never been significant point producers thus far.

Still think it was unfortunate that there wasn't a bidding war for Arvidsson or Skinner. Edmonton got low risk contracts.
