Signing Eriksson pretty much assures the Sedins extend a year or two. I'd guess at the same 6m...

An 18M 2nd line of Sedins-Eriksson is something I'm hoping for in the future.

I don't know if that's expensive relative to the rest of the NHL but it's good enough to contend with.

That assumes we have better forwards to put on a 1st line. Hopefully they come from somewhere in the next 2 years.

Its obviously expensive compared to the rest of the NHL, when do you ever see 3 6m players on the 2nd line. BUT If we do have a first line, they probably wont cost as much. Horvat bridge deal/Boeser, future first rounder etc so it will balance out.

Gotcha. Ya that's fair I guess. As long as the kids are playing with these vets and not being scratched and benched to give them more ice time then I am ok with it. I just find Willie such a risk averse coach that I am naturally skeptical that he will do that. But in theory it makes sense.

definitely, Willie blows my mind sometimes with his decisions. He had better utilize better line combinations and not stick with horrible lines like baer-bo-vrbata for 2months when it clearly did not work.

Maybe after 2 years he has learned how to adapt to the pro game.

I was also heartened by Bennings comments after the draft that now he has depth built up in the organization he wants to start accumulating draft picks instead of moving them out for ready-to-play depth. Hopefully he sticks to that and Willie adapts and maybe the future wont be as bleak as it looked last year in all facets of the organization.

Eriksson's even-strength points have to be considered a major positive. More than either Sedin or Hansen last year. Hopefully he can jumpstart the Sedins pedestrian ES numbers.

If they extend, I would expect it wouldbe for less - say $4.5M for two years. They'll need the cap space to re-up a number of their RFAs over the next 3 years.

Don't you think the Sedins will want to win? Why would they sign one year deals here?

Man, I'm not sure what I'd want. I kinda want them to retire here, but at the same time I'd love too see them win a cup which isn't happening here.

Because at this stage of their careers neither side knows what will happen in the future. Vets get the best value when they get good money on a one year deal, and there's no risk for the organization because they don't have to commit long term.

You know they still have 2 years left on their current contracts right? They will be a few months from being 38 when they negotiate new contracts. They won't be signing for multiple years.

Edit: Nevermind, I read your post wrong. Thought you were asking why they'd sign 1 year deals, period, rather than 1 year deals in Vancouver.

I would say because I believe they're 100% committed to the Canucks. That's just the feeling I get with them. It's like Marleau in San Jose or Doan in Arizona.

for many many years, sedins have not played with a true top 6 that meshes well with them...finally they have one at the age of 36.

I am similarly torn but I am strongly leaning towards the latter.

If nothing else it gives me a team to cheer for once we are out of it.

Indeed, but it goes both ways. We can't be declaring Benning a great drafter prior to five years either.

But if you take that away, they don't have much to talk about.

And I'm someone who is optimistic about the drafting lately.

Sutter is #21 so don't know what Loui will be!
From what I've seen, Loui Eriksson has worn 21 everywhere he's played. Dallas, Boston and for Sweden. Sutter already has it, but wore 16 in Pittsburgh and Carolina. He took 21 because Linden's 16 is retired.

Who changes? Maybe Sutter isn't in love with 21, just took it because it was available. We'll have to wait and see.
Loui wore #91 at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

Vancouver just vacated the #91.

Loui has also worn #23 before, but that number isn't available.
