Why are GM's handing out so many freaking No Move clauses like candy? It comes back and bites them in the butt later.

I think no moves that expire is a good compromise. Pragmatically, when you are signing players to 6-8 year contracts both the team and the player is making a long term commitment.

I get what you're trying to say but I don't group those 2 dmen together. Provorov is still a good top 4 dman, even though his development as a top pairing guy staggered eatlier in his career and ruined the perception of his game.
Ristolainen on the other hand is a low hockey IQ glass and out bottom pairing dman with no potential to play in the top 4. Basically an overpaid Forbort.

I'll add even more context. Seravalli went on Calagry radio Monday, and said MP3 was only a #5D. The Calgary guys seem a bit confused, and we're even more caught off guard when he said Seth Jones was a top pairing D and a "#2D all day".

Wow, it seems like after nearly a decade of major questions on D that things have finally stabilized and should get even better when Willander arrives and EP2 continues to evolve. What a turnaround in such a short time.
The fact that we can beat a pretty good team in Colorado 3-0 with no Hughes would be unimaginable even just a few weeks ago. It just makes such a difference when you can balance out your D pairs and have everyone playing appropriate minutes and assignments.

He said that on Halford and Brough this morning as well - M Pettersson was a #4 or #5 dman. Halford and Brough were puzzled by this take. Seraveloi was describing Pettersson as if he was nothing better than Tyler Myers, off the boards and out type D man.

As everyone as said, a real team friendly deal M-Petey/MP3/DPetey2 gave the club. Given where the cap is going, similar defensemen are going to be asking for near $7M as soon as this offseason.

Having another competent defenseman to raise the floor of their non-Quinn minutes is a godsend. They needed this move a while ago.

I might biased because this is a player I have liked for a couple of years now. But this is a great signing, the term does not bother me much we see this all the time that this type of defence man tend to age pretty well, look at Myers for all the flack he has gotten he has aged really well.

My only complaint is this trade didn't happen in December.
It kills me to think of how many points got pissed away by the second pairing of which Soucy was the common denominator.

That being said I believe everything happens for a reason and maybe D-Petey never gets a chance, just like I doubt they would have had the balls to split up Quinn and Hronek but now we know that Quinn and Myers make an excellent duo and Hronek is the perfect compliment to M3PETEY.
Now it's just a matter of seeing who plays best with D-Petey, until Willander joins the team forces the staffs hand like D-Petey has
