Our D has gone from piss poor to actually pretty good now and with a potentially very good future.

Great deal! Miller for Chytil and MP signed long term doesn’t sound so bad. Normally I don’t like to combine trades but there is little doubt Alvin was working these in tandem.

1st like center for 2/3C, top4D and maybe a 3rd paring RHD. If Chytil can become a 2C or be flipped for 1 and Mancini becomes a 3rd paring guy that can really hurt then this will be a pretty good trade.
Little doubt Marcus Pettersson would be signed by the Canucks to long-term extension. You can't afford to trade a first round draft pick for an impending UFA, unless you're absolutely sure.
MP3 reminds me of a left-handed version of Chris Tanev. Superb positioning and a superior first pass. His deal will carry him well into his 30's, but the way he plays, there likely won't be any fall-off.
The contract number is a little high, but with the cap going up, I have no doubt it'll be eventually viewed as a solid deal going forward.

This really sets them up nicely with MP, Hughes, Hronek, Myers, EP25, and even Soucy all signed for next season with Willander almost certain to sign soon. I'd even have no problem re-signing Forbort for depth.

Good deal. Was worried it would be like $6.5M a year. $500K more a year over Zadorov is the better deal/safer bet.

Because the alternative is overpaying them to the extent that the contract becomes untradeable anyways.
I'm not sure 'no move' clauses in a contract mean what they used to. When a player and a team reach an impasse like the Canucks did with Miller, it's almost automatic that the player will agree to 'waive it' to go somewhere else.
And according to Puckpedia, Carson Soucy has a modified not-trade clause in his contract, which is actually a 12-team no-trade list. Apparently he wants to complete the last year of his contract in Vancouver--but probably wouldn't stand in the way of a trade.

O’Connor should probably come in around Heinen’s AAV. There is absolutely zero way he signs for $1.5.
I’d go close to $3 million on him. I think he’s a really, really solid player.

Seravalli is an insider on the business side of hockey, but his takes in terms of on-ice analysis are uniformly awful.

To add to @Nuckles reply, the overall tone of the interview was so weird. He very clearly hadn't watched the two games since the trade, or perhaps any of MPs games.
He questioned the timing of the trade, in my opinion, coming from a place of, the Canucks aren't making the playoffs why would they try to improve the team now? Said he thought there as better options but blanked when asked for examples.
Looks like it worked out for Vancouver, they got the guy they wanted and locked him up to a great deal by getting ahead of the field.
I think it is actually better than that once Hughes is back in the lineup, but then I think a good part of the problem with the defence this season has been people being forced to play above their level.
Obviously Hughes-Hronek is not a problem as first pair.
Right now we have MPet and Myers playing together as second pair and I think that should also work fine. As I see the problem with Myers sometimes this year it is that he's been paired with Soucy, leaving us a #4 (Myers, who if necessary can still pass as a #3 part time) and a #5 (Soucy, who can pass for a #4 for a #4 some of the time), leaving a pair not quite good enough to play the minutes they've had to play, putting more pressure on both players which leads to more mistakes than they'd expect to make if carrying less responsibility and so under less pressure.
Getting someone on the 2nd pair capable of being a solid, steady #2/3 playing with Myers seems to me to take the pressure off Myers and make that a pretty good 2nd pair. Both can contribute to moving the puck out of their zone, both can contribute a little offensively and both can defend-it is Pettersson's strength and Myers can be good at it when not stuck with too much responsibility. I think that will be a good 2nd pair if they're kept together.
There are options even this season for the 3rd pair which I think can leave the 3rd pair decent for limited minutes and responsibility. We've got Soucy, Forbort, possibly EP25 and while some just want him gone I think last season Juulsen showed that given limited responsibility he can perform adequately on the 3rd pair.
That still leaves us with Willander, Kudryavtsev and Mynio as prospects, as well as some other minor league vets that are or may become capable of filling in as depth when necessary.
It seems to me that the acquisition of M Pettersson is enough to repair the construction of the defence to the extent that it could be a relative strength.
