Much better deal than I anticipated, both in money and terms. MP3 must really want to be here, since he has all the leverage and didn't squeeze every pennies out of the team.

LSD of Hughes, MP3, and Junior/Forbort is pretty stack!

I thought it would be 6-6.5 with the rising cap. Great deal, though I feel in ~3 years, he'll be overtaken by DPetey. But a lot can happen between now and then and the LD position looks great going forward.

Honestly D-Petey overtaking Marcus in the top 4 in the next 2-3 years would be an amazing problem to have. It means we would have a really strong top 5 D if both Willander and D-Petey develop, and with both Willander and D-Petey being on ELCs, rising cap, and this being a great value contract, we can afford to pay 3LD 5.5m.

The talent around the league is already being spread too thin with 32 teams and it's hurting the on ice product.

Really hope expansion is done for the foreseeable future.
It's getting worse too. The economy is reducing the talent pool quite considerably.

Things definitely look promising with this addition at a very reasonable contract, DPetey surprising with his consistent and improving play (small sample size), along with the promise of Willander on the horizon.

What's even more promising, is you have Huges, Hronek, and MPetey as great examples of how to excel at different approaches to playing defense.

Heh, the fact of a quick extension seemed automatic (still falls short of the Jim Benning-Brandon Sutter sound barrier), and to be honest this is kind of what I expected. I don't know the player that well so perhaps I'm underestimating him, but $6M/year still sounds like star money to me, because I'm old fashioned that way. (I think Hronek's cost is quite high for what he is too, but they were in a similar position optics-wise).

Slam.

****ing.

Dunk.

I am honestly surprised that after seeing Lindell 5.25MMx5 and Roy 5.75MMx6 deals, combined with the like 8.5% year over year cap inflation in the next three years, that we got him at a 5.5MM AAV with that term.

Takes him through his Age 34 season, team friendly trade protection in the back half of the deal.

Looking forward to having THREE legitimate top-4D men in the lineup.

I'm very happy with the trade protection dropping after year 3, pretty rare to get away with that while landing the #1 upcoming d ufa. Being able to Schmidt him after 3 years mitigates a lot of the risk of signing an older player to a long term deal.

Yeah, 6m/yr was always my baseline since it was the Sedins' cap hits, and nobody should've exceeded them at the time..

Hamhuis' 4.5m/yr contract with the Canucks was ~7.58% of the cap when he signed it, and this contract is ~5.76% of next year's cap. Pretty good.

Yeah this is nothing like the Myers contract… Myers never lived up to that contract.
5.5M in a 95M cap environment is very very different than 6M in a 80M cap environment.
Good point but believe Myers has fully lived up to present contract and that deal looks good (if Myers doesn't age out too quickly) moving ahead.
