I thought it would be 6-6.5 with the rising cap. Great deal, though I feel in ~3 years, he'll be overtaken by DPetey. But a lot can happen between now and then and the LD position looks great going forward.

Looks great. I don't have a problem with MP and that cap hit is pretty par for the course.

Assuming Willander is a player next year the defense is rounding into for for a couple years.

Need lankinen and O'Conner signed... Need to add on offense.

Oh ya, don’t get me wrong, I am happy with the deal. My point is that he will be 29 to start the contract and it isn’t uncommon for players to see a significant drop off in their play as they enter their thirties. Not saying it will happen here, or even trying to quantify the risk, but there is a risk.

I think though, with the rising cap, even if he declines to a 4-5 in years 3-6 or whatever, we will be OK.
6 year term is solid. I mean this was going to be his last big contract. Didn’t need to go 7/8 years.

Nice trade protection on this one. Once sat came out and said the numbers the other day I was already happy.

If D-Petey actually takes off and is a real thing and is ready for top four duty in three years, you can move out M-Petey then with this trade protection.

Great all around. Go get the F now.

The risk is on par or lower with most FA deals. Don't really care about the scoring and he's not a top pair workhorse, so hopefully he ages as well as Ian Cole for his floor and Tanev/Hjalmarsson as his ceiling.

Really solid deal.

Same term and only 500k more than Zadorov, but M-Petey is much more consistent defensively.

Great work by Allvin and Rutherford.

Well what do you know , now trading that first round pick looks genius .

That contract is a steal and a bargain for a top 4 defenseman

Based on what we have seen, and what we know about the cap and such, this is a very good deal. M. Pettersson could have put them over a barrel and he doesn't seem to have done that. If EP 2 can fully establish himself next year and Willander develops quickly, future of our defense looks a lot brighter.

Glad this was done quickly and, given EP1's play this season, EP1 might want to even out some of his salary with his brother.

like I said should be similar to Matt Roy. 5.5M is probably exactly where it should.

Absolutely love this signing. He might be better than Hronek (debatable), is like a taller Tanev defensively, and even puts up more points than Zadorov who wanted the same cap hit. With the rising cap I can’t believe we got him at 5.5. The Pittsburgh trade is a clear win now as we got to MP3 before the market (and have him for a critical stretch to end this season).

Huge W for Allvin. Now he needs to sign O’Connor.

Amazing how one D man trade and one rapidly rising rookie (both named Pettersson) completely changed the outlook of this d-core. Now if Willander shows well at the end of this season, we should really really push to throw real money on an impact forward ($15M Rantanen cowards)
