Well, there goes the Canucks' $191,000 in cap space. I guess they'll have to operate off of LTIR again, once Poolman is placed on this list before the first game of the season.

Too bad in some ways. Even operating a couple of hundred grand below the cap threshold carries advantages in the regular season.....because the cap space builds up cumulatively. But realistically, the Canucks had little choice.

As good as he was in the playoffs, there's no way you want to go into the regular season with a rookie goaltender in Silovs, who's only played 20 games in the NHL. And if Demko were to end up on LTIR to start the season, then that creates a chunk of cap space.

That just says whether someone is waivers exempt but doesn’t give the specific amount of NHL games. At least on mobile.
fair ....yes you would have to track the games and/or seasons from when the contract was signed.

No impact on Poolman. With Lankinen’s salary, we’re still under cap without needing to go into LTIR. In fact, that was the exact reason why Alvin waited him out.
They can still avoid LTIR for the beginning of the season if they assign someone that would have made the team to Abbotsford and thus expose him to waivers, going with an active roster of 22.

Before they added Lankinen the Canucks were looking at being barely under the cap with Demko and Poolman included, Demko active and healthy and an active roster of 23. To add an $875K player to the roster without using LTIR on Poolman or Demko they'll need to subtract a player of similar cost to Lankinen, the one they added.

I mean, if Blueger, Joshua, Demko, and Poolman are all injured for the start of the year and we want to not put any on LTIR and replace with healthy skaters so we have a 24+ man roster, then yes we would be over the cap.

However, if we get even one of those back, sounds like Blueger, then we why wouldn’t we open the season with 13 forwards, 7 D and 3 goalies and stay under the cap without going to LTIR? Again, if Joshua continues to be injured then we may have to put him on LTIR and replace him, but we don’t have to do that for our 23 man roster at the start of the season.

Has no impact on our situation though. Patera has to go through waivers now, Silovs and Tolopilo are exempt all year.

Yes. But the point is that the signing of an additional under league minimum salary barely ever effects the cap, and if so only by the marginal difference with the player being sent down. So lankinen has no impact on pool man or others . Injuries to Denko, Joshua, etc are a bigger factor
If we don’t want to go into LTIR.

Not directed at you but more for general info. If only Blueger comes back we would likely technically start the season with a cap compliant 23 man roster like:

Hogs - Petey - Debrusk
Heinen - Miller - Boeser
Sherwood - Blueger - Garland
Spring - Suter - PDG or Aman
Joshua (one of PDG or Aman waived)

Hughes - Hronek
Soucy - Myers
Forbort - Desharnais
Juulsen

Lankinen
Silovs
Demko

Good move. I’m not as confident in Silovs as some, at least this year. He played better in the playoffs than expected but his save percentage was still .881 in a small sample size.
Demko needs to play a lot less games this year as his workload has been crazy and he needs to be healthy for the playoffs.
Acquiring Laniken allows them to do set up a reasonable workload.

Excellent signing. Even if there were no injury concerns with Demko this would still be great as it allows Silovs to play in the AHL and Lankinen has proven to be capable getting 25-30 starts.
