Confirmed with Link: Canucks sign G Aku Koskenvuo to 2-Year ELC

He totally fell off my radar, it seems he had an uptick last two years? Goalies development trajectories might as well be quantum physics to me

We do desperately need something good coming down the pipe in net

Apparently Koskenuvo was one of Ian Clark's 'finds', and was instrumental in the Canucks drafting him.

Kind of underwhelming numbers in the NCAA and even lost the starting job at one point. But as others have pointed, the Harvard teams he played on really weren't very good.

So the Canucks have a lot of 'quantity' in their goalie pipeline. But remains to be seen how much 'quality' is there.

The cupboard is really bare in terms of a younger quality goalie within the organization that has legit upside to be even a reliable backup.

Silovs is done after this season. He salvaged last season with what he did in the playoffs but before that last season wasn’t even as good as the season before.

Tolopilo has been equally inconsistent and turns 25 next month. He has size and not much else.

Ty Young has put up some good numbers as a rookie pro. Let’s hope he can continue to develop.

I’ve never seen Koskenvuo play but just assumed he was a missed pick as he doesn’t appear to have developed much over his 3 seasons, but I trust our scouts see something in him and with the cupboard so bare…

I figured he was sure to finish his 4th season at Harvard and get his degree. This wasn’t on my radar at all.

I don’t have much of a read on him as a prospect at all. Making the 2023 Finland WJC team : good. Getting outplayed by his undrafted freshman backup last year : less good.

i only saw harvard play a handful of times but i would have put money on koskenvuo not getting a contract next year let alone now

i don't know anything about goalies though

Ty Young is the goalie prospect I’m most excited about but Aku is also worth a contract. Ya never know with these guys.

My guess right now is that with none of Silovs, Tolopilo or Patera knocking their socks off, that the Canucks view Young as their best up and coming prospect, and hope that Koskenvuo might translate well to the pro game, too.

Silovs is waivers eligible next season right? I can’t forsee the team signing another Patera or Lankinen type unless Demko isn’t ready to go or traded.

Silovs is the wildcard. If Lankinen and Demko are the goaltending duo with the big club then does Silovs pass through waivers? If he does there’s a bit of a log jam if Topilo signs (albeit it is manageable). If he doesn’t and there’s no Topilo we don’t have much experience in Abbotsford.

I’d imagine that the Arty Party is winding down and management wants to try something different as Silovs can’t seem to overcome his flaws and take the next step. Maybe he still can but it appears his apparent issues are pretty much baked in and not going to get better.

I agree with the part about him staying at Harvard. Unless he makes the Abby team I think Harvard would be better than the echl team.

I'm not sure that the odd man out in Abbotsford might be Tolopilo, rather than Arty. They still have Jiri Patera listed on the roster, and he's hardly even played this year. But somewhat regrettably, he's signed through the end of the next season, while Tolopilo is an impending RFA.

But with Patera, Young, Silovs and now Koskenuvo under contract--there's too many goalies for too few spots.

Patera isn't under contract next season. He signed a 1 year deal.

Might be both Tolopilo and Silovs out next year with Patera and Young in Abby and Koskenuvo in the Zoo to get maximum playing time. That’s assuming that Demko is good to go for the start of next season.

Well, Koskenuvo is listed at 6'4" and 173, so I'm not certain that 'big, solid, thick and girthy' is a very accurate description. More like a 'beanpole' would be my description.
