Rumor: Canucks: Should I stay or should I go? Pete stays and Miller goes!

New rumor seems to be Kotkaniemi and Roslovic for Miller, Canucks have been after Roslovic for a few years now, according to Dhaliwal.
If Roslovic is in the deal, I would pivot to him, Drury and Walker if I was VAN, leave Kotkaniemi out. Walker would have to waive, obviously, and CAR probably needs to make another move (don't want Smith/Stillman full time at D).

Roslovic is a nothing player. You can get that guy every year as a UFA. Salary makeweight maybe.

Kotkaniemi it was rumoured the Canucks looked at in the Pettersson deal so I guess, but his contract makes him a nothing asset as well. I think you have to have a Scott Morrow plus a pick of some kind or a 1st to make this one even start to look like it makes sense.

Depending on picks & prospects, that doesn't beat Rangers offer
Both of those are pieces Vancouver has been after for a few years. This is like the 3rd time in 2 years KK has been linked with the Canucks. I don't know why Allvin and JR like him...but I think he's an integral asset to the offer.

Ye I suppose that's the most logical way to look at it. KK may not be the best player they could get but they covet him so much that his style of play may suit their needs better.

Roslovic is a strange one though. They could have got him in free agency.

Canucks would be really dumb to trade EP. His value is probably at its worst right now with a poor season comparative to salary.

Know there any many more optics to the situation but the Canucks should wait for him to regain some of his previous form before shipping him off for potential scraps.

No team in their right mind is going to give up much with his play this year and his gargantuan contract and the years left.

Roslovic may just be a piece of the deal to even out the cap values AND happens to be a player that Vancouver has interest in so is willing to take him as part of the cap moves necessary, instead of a player they are specifically asking for.

In 2 years the salary cap will have risen to the value of his salary anyway so it's won't really be considered too much of an anchor. He is also young enough where he can get away with a blip season.

Vancouver was probably attempting to keep the NYR pick and flip their own for a missing piece. Makes the line in the sand make sense.
Likelihood of a second move in waiting would be less likely with all the issues around closing this one.
That said I can see why NYR balk at dropping the protection.

Something I was flipping around in my shell of a head was the NYR play is to get Miller to open up. Packages being leaked and continuation of deals not working l, suggests something else is up.

If you look at whats happened with Miller to this point it feels like they want him to be uncomfortable. Cutting of ice time, leave of absence have all lead to speculation and magnifier like focus on him.

Pittsburgh makes sense but its crickets from them. What happened to Petterson(D.) talk!

Might just be hoping something better happens than same old shit for the Canucks.

Miller to Carolina sounds like a perfect fit for the canes. Dump Kotkaniemi contract back to the nucks and it's a massive win regardless of the price.
Miller would finally put the hurricanes (devils&stars) over the top, they should (all) definitely be trying hard to get him.

just a weee over payment there
Yeah that's too much from a Dallas perspective.

But I'm really confused as to why they aren't seriously interested. They have the cap this year, cap going forward and some expendable young players who are not yet frontline contributors.

Not the same players exactly but Miller should be able to replace a lot of what Pavelski gave them.

Kot and Roslivic for Miller would cause Canuck fans to lose their mind pretty fast. Chytil and Lindgren is a significantly better package and I am not the biggest fans of either of those players. Chytil will probably surprise Canuck fans and may put up pts on a 2nd line with more talent.
