If Chytil, Lindgren, and 1st was "all" Vancouver was getting for Miller, Carolina can definitely put together a commensurate package. KK < Chytil, and Carolina 1st < NYR 1st this year (at least as it stands now), so they'd need to add on the peripherals to even it out, but it's not like they're getting outbid by the Panthers for Tkachuk who are throwing in Huberdeau or whatever.

KK + Roslovic + Morrow + 1st (as suggested upthread) is more than palatable to this Canes fan if that's good for Vancouver.

I think it would depend entirely on how they view KK. If they see him as a pure cap dump that they’ll likely be looking to buyout this offseason, it might not be enough for them. It’s probably not far off though as at least his buyout is a very low cap hit.

Kotkaniemi still has a cheap buyout for two more offseasons, so they could realistically take him, hope he puts it together in the next 1.5 seasons, then move on at a 840k buyout for 8 years. Long, but not at all prohibitive.

That's your package from Carolina. That doesn't mean Carolina is interested in doing that or Miller is interested in going to Carolina. Most teams should be able to beat Lingren/Chytil as the main pieces.

if the trades continue to be underwhelming we have to hold on to him , like a 3rd line C and an undersized ufa d man isnt going to get it done Rangers im sorry.

Serving notice to the Eastern Conference & Divisional rivals.
It sure sounds like JT Miller is about to be traded and he’s coming your way.

If I’m the Hughes Bros & Austin Matthews then I’d be like

Hopefully the Canucks can figure this out and make the right move.

Friedman just did another segment with Donnie and Dhaliwal show

- Sounds like Miller will only waive to go to a Eastern American Teams.

Teams that Friedman believes are big time in it:
NYR, Carolina,

Teams that Friedman believes are so so in it:
Dallas, New Jersey

- He also wonders about NYI because he doesnt think NYI wants to pack it in.

The almost but failed NYR VAN trade i suspect is this :

Chytil, Lindgren, Sykora, Chmlar , 1st round pick

for

JT Miller, Klimovich

Fell through because of the protection/unprotection of the NYR 1st round pick.

How about this scenario for Canucks to remain competitive now:

to Van: ROR, Scott Morrow
to Car: JT Miller
to Nas: Car 1st and KK

Forbort to Bos for Zadorov (cap dump)

No thanks from VAN pov.

Can Scott Morrow even beat out Tom Willander? Willander is looking great and projected to leave College and join the Canucks in spring.

ROR is always a nice addition but I dont think he can carry a 2nd line which is what the Canucks would need him to do.

It’s a big if, but if Chytil stays healthy, he’ll likely be better and worth more than Miller on his own in the next couple years. Just with typical aging curves, he’ll still be in his prime and Miller will be in his mid-30’s. Factoring in his age and contract, Miller will likely be a negative value player at that point. The downside of Chytil is obviously the injury risk, but with his affordable short term contract, it’s relatively limited.

BTW, anyone calling Chytil a 3rd line center better not also say that the Rangers mishandled Kakko. Chytil is a better player than Kakko. If Chytil is a 3rd liner then so is Kakko. Chytil will be more than fine as a 2nd line center if he doesn't get injured. He's a very good player who plays the right way and gives it his all every shift. Once again his issue is injuries. If I'm a Canucks fan I worry about the injuries, not the quality of the player.

BTW, with no injuries in the right situation Chytil can be a 70 point stud center that controls the flow of the game. He's one of my favorite players. We're not moving the Rangers' equivalent of Sammy Blais here.

Edit: There's an argument to be made that Chytil has been a top 3 forward on this team this season.
