Rumor: Canucks: Should I stay or should I go? Pete stays and Miller goes!

So amidst the following evidence I have constructed my theory as to what happened and will not be taking questions at this time....

Rangers and Canucks have deal in principle, and are pacing to get it done imminently.

Rangers, scratch some of their AHL guys in the trade.

Another team (I believe NJ) sees this scratching and goes "whoa, we internally like Miller more than that"

On an effort to jump the gun on an advanced deal, they simultaneously call the Canucks to express interest, and Millers agent to see if he would waive.

Rangers are told by Canucks they want to sit on the nearly done deal for another day to consider new found options, and the Rangers pull out.

Canucks learn of NJ (honestly whatever team here) speaking directly with Miller or his agent and issue a tampering warning, as they now might feel it has potentially indirectly cost them a nearly done deal.

Seems accurate from all currently available evidence

Vancouver fans keep talking about how he is top X in scoring over the last 5 years. I do think that it’s a bit misleading. He has been closer to Zibby and Schieffle over the past few seasons than top 10. What he did at 27 has less bearing at his part of the aging curve.
His best season ever was last year. We aren’t talking 5 years ago.

Tampering warning was made earlier in the week, wasn’t it? Otherwise, your ideas follow a logical path.
Or, perhaps a club stepped up with a good offer for Pettersson and Van is pursuing that and keeping Miller?

Would that really be tampering to reach out to Miller's agent to see if he'd be interested in waiving his NMC to go there?

With all due respect, JT Miller has been putting up these points as recent as last season.

And he was an absolute monster in the playoffs last season.

I don't think you know what escrow is.....

Players got reimbursed the escrow this year is the headline I thought, but I didn’t read it yet

Presumably at some point they’ll keep raising the cap every year until they need escrow again
That's not what escrow is.

This explains a lot of these comments lol.

Nice take Timmy

Rags could have gotten a sweater deal if they held to kakko. They could have used him as a
Chip for ep40. Hes exploding in seattle right now. Poor asset management.

Eh, he fits better with Schwartz and Beniers than with either of the Rangers top 6 lines. The Cuylle-Chytil-Kakko line was one of the best in the league, and then the Rangers broke it up

Yea but did you see kakko return from Seattle? Whynot hold kakko and package him with chytll and possibly get a stud in ep40. They dumped him for a guy named wil borgen.😃

Because much like Miller, Chytil as the primary piece for Pettersson leaves a significant cap gulf that would need to be bridged, in addition to the value gulf.

And for the record, i think the Borgen trade was dogshit and i'm glad kakko's looking great outside this hellhole.

It's because it's true? Here's the last 6 seasons. Guys elite. I hope we don't trade him.

With the comments about how Pettersson plays when Miller is out of the lineup, I have to wonder if we’re looking at a Duchene-MacKinnon situation. Is it possible that moving Miller and saying to Pettersson, “the team is yours now,” unlocks a new level for EP?

it happened with hughes after horvat was traded and he got the C. and as far as anyone knows there wasn’t even a personality clash there.
