Prospect Info: Canucks select D Elias Pettersson , 3rd Round, 80th Overall, 2022

I remember arguing about Podkolzin's height. This one is definitive, EP25 is a big 200+ guy. he's pretty much exactly what every team needs on D, just need to work on puck skills.
And he's showed a little better with the puck on his stick than I had expected from him this season.

Don't remember the debate on Podz height, as i might not have been on here much at the time, but there is no other Canuck i saw more than Podz (his wife and newborn). They seemed to walk around a lot by the seawall. He looked 6 foot and not much more in his final month here; his combine was 6.075.

I've seen EP25 a handful of times, he's easily over 200lbs. I will eat my shoe if he is 185lbs.

At least one of the prospect websites had his height listed at something like 6'3'' or 6'4'' the year before he came over from Russia.

yup, and other websites copied the same info from that Russian one leading to a lot of us wondering if he was 6'3 6'4 and plays the same dog-with-a-bone physical style..... won't that be nice? I am sure we wont give him away for nothing even if he ends up with 25 point each year..

looking at EP25 these last 15 games, I think he can achieve 25 pts while playing smart rock solid D.

Sell high on him because almost zero percent chance he replicates this next season
This isn't 25 year old rookie Hirose at 180 lbs though, I don't see why there's isn't more upside here. Dude is fast, built like a tank, physical, seems to have decent hockey sense and doesn't handle the puck like a grenade.

He seems like a keeper to me, he has a high floor and a relatively high upside for a prospect, while a guy like Lekkerimaki who's smaller and slower has to produce otherwise will be a career SHL'er

I...didn't think so. Are you on dark mode? It's very hard to see on dark mode.

Anyway...slapshot_11 is no longer with us.

No, can't see it.

Regardless:

Unfortunately I have little trust in management to hang on to this guy. There’s been way too much noise for my liking in recent radio hits from Canucks insiders close to the front office, hinting that D-Petey could be the trade chip to bring in center depth. He’s arguably the top prospect in the organization - why even entertain that?

I'm sure everyone, outside of Hughes could be had for the right price.
The price of EP2 should be astronomical, though.

If the Canucks trade D Petey I will lose all faith in this management, it's already hanging by a thread.

It's bizarre that the Canucks finally have cap space and it means absolutely nothing because this off-season a lot of teams have cap space.

Very lame that Willander hasn't signed yet. Just a cherry on top for a complete year of disappointment.

60 days ago I was okay with using him as a trade chip. He's almost untouchable for me now. I wouldn't move him for anything less than McTavish straight across.

It's just so hard to find d-men who bring what D-Petey brings to the table. A superb skater, who hits a ton; and is just starting to develop some offensive instincts.

You certainly can't acquire them in a trade.....you have to be lucky enough to draft one. And it usually takes a high first rounder to get the guy you need.

Difficult to wrap your head around the fact that EP25 was a third round draft pick. He's basically 'found money'.

This is fair and I don't want to move him but the found money will be wasted unless we improve our center situation both in the near and long term.
