Prospect Info: Canucks select D Elias Pettersson , 3rd Round, 80th Overall, 2022

  • HFBoards is doing server maintenance Thursday March 13th at 9 AM GMT 5 AM EDT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
How do you solve our problem of a top line C? We have a strength at D now, so that gives us some options.
I don't see D-Petey being too valued league-wide at this point, him as the main piece probably doesn't get you back a top line C (unless one that has a lot of issues/baggage). Trading him now is "selling low" as he's just not proven enough in the league.

In a couple seasons once he has more of a track record and proven as a dependable physical top 4 D, then his value would be immense.

Still, I would hold on to him until at the very least we have Hughes extended. If Quinn is extended and we are offered a young-ish 1C or 2C for D-Petey (in a package), then I would consider it at that point. Wouldn't trade him now.

Seamus Casey and Tristan Luneau are really good and will both become top 3 dman imo. Lamoureux has projectable traits as well and if he wasn’t injured early in the season he woukd probably be playing a full season with Utah.

The draft is pretty strong with defenseman and not so much with forwards as of right now.

i think lamoureux has a shot at being the best defender taken in the draft

sam rinzel and ryan chesley are both still in college but are dominating. they'll both be really good nhlers too imo

bichsel has been very good in dallas too

2022 was just a great year for defensemen

Wow, that's up there. You really wouldn't trade him for any of those guys? I know Jiricek is kind of sputtering along but Nemec and Korchinski are progressing fairly decently aren't they? You don't think those two will eventually put it together and possibly be top guys that would be worth the contemplation?

Nemec just isn't very good. He's really struggling defensively and doesn't really look like a big point producer either. If I had to guess he projects as a 4-5 puck-moving D at this point. Was drafted way too high. No standout traits really at either end of the rink, not really a great skater either. Soft.

Jiricek is a worse version of EP2 at this point. Might have a bit more skill (although I'm not even sure about that anymore) but his defensive IQ and physical play is not as strong.

I was a big fan of Korchinski in junior but his development has gone totally off the rails this year.

EP2 has been really, really f***ing good. He looks like a legit future top-pairing defender.

Lamoureaux and Bichsel are probably both at roughly EP2's level at this point as big D who are showing the sort of defensive chops to play #2-3 high-leverage minutes down the road. Hutson and Mintyukov are probably the two best D from that draft right now and then those guys would be 3-4-5.

For a 20-year old to come to NA, and become a dominant d-man the AHL level; and then graduate to Vancouver and end up on a second pairing with Hronek, well how can you not be 'gob-smacked'?

He just turned 21 in early February. Surely by now, he's sailed past a lot of the d-men drafted well ahead of him in the 2022 Entry Draft. But he never made Craig Button's list of the top NHL-affiliated prospects.

To quote the Beach Boys: "I'm getting good vibrations from this player'.

Wow, your assessment of EP25 has improved quite a bit over the last month. For good reason I suppose. He deserves it. Always makes the right play it seems. Just like an old vet.
Yes you are correct. He has made me completely change my position of his possible trajectory.

At first I was hoping for a solid 3rd pairing Dman.

He has made me believe that a second pairing player is possible.

I would consider just trading Hughes. His value is at an all-time high right now and it'll only get lower the longer he's here without an extension. I imagine we could get a top 10 center in the league + an elite winger for him.

Zary should be suspended for the rest of the season. This kind of stuff has no place in the NHL. A sucker punch elbow to the back of the head could cause lifelong consequences.

Also tired of players "retaliating" for clean hits. That should be an immediate 5 min major.

How can four officials on the ice miss a hit like that? At least they should have huddled and reviewed it amongst themselves.

If the tape goes into the league--I can't see how there isn't a suspension for Zary.
