Not sure what to read into the fact that a 20-year old d-man with just over 10 AHL games to his credit is your first call-up from the farm.

One the one hand, it's great that D-Petey has cemented himself as a legit NHL prospect. On the other hand when a raw rookie like that is your best AHL d-man, it doesn't speak volumes about some of the other AHL blueliners you have on your roster.

It's definitely a bit curious that they didn't bring up Woo or Brisebois ahead of him. But reports in the Abby thread say that he's been the best defenceman down there so probably a bit of both.

Right now there isn't a true first-pair AHL defenceman playing in Abbotsford and he's been as good as anyone who hasn't already been called up (Brannstrom) or is injured (Friedman). This is a modest $ reward for him and also a chance for coaches to look at him for a few days in practice. But he can't help Vancouver's defence at this point.

Really hope that doesn't happen. Marcus Pettersson is basically a 'stop-gap' and is a UFA at the end of the season.

How long can the Canucks keep sacrificing picks and prospects for short-term rentals?
if Marcus Pettersson is the target, one of Hoglander, EP(D) or Mynio would go the other way along with a pick. I think it makes sense, he is a UFA that will likely sign here. Swede and all. which means we can bid a little higher.

I'm not sure people have been watching this Canuck blueline closely enough lately. They have Hronek and Hughes; and then it basically falls off a mountain.

Normally I'd agree that a 20-year old d-man shouldn't be able to do much to help an NHL team, unless it's somebody like Hughes or Makar.

But if it's true that D-Petey is their best d-man in the AHL right now; than he can't be worse than the stiffs they're parading out there shift after shift.

And investing minutes in a raw rookie, at least you know he has a chance to actually improve as the season goes on.

I find it hard to believe that you really think this.

Do you actually think people haven't paid close attention and noticed the problem? Haven't you noticed post after post about the need to acquire help on the back end? Haven't you noticed the criticisms, since the season began, of every defenseman not on the top pairing except Brannstrom (and even his limitations regularly get pointed out)?

I'm flabbergasted. What forum have you been reading? How could you possibly think that these observations are news to anyone?

What post and forum are you reading? The issue was whether a 20-year d-man like Elias Pettersson II could actually help them right now.

if have you've figured that out yet, I guess your opinion is as relevant as anyone else. You just have to spit it out.
