Nice. Bains wasn't showing anything worth keeping here.

It's time for Pod to reclaim his spot in the Top 9.

I don’t think that’s entirely fair to Bains. He showed promise, but needs more seasoning. And getting him the pro experience was important.

But it’s good for us to get a look at what we have with Podkolzin.

Looking forward to see how Pod looks after an extra year in the AHL and with a coaching staff that requires more structure. He should be the kind of player Tocchet can coach the hell out of. If he falls flat I think that's probably the end of the line for him here in Vancouver at this point

Mainly interested to see if Podkolzin has improved while being in the AHL all year. Anyone who’s been following their season have any insights?

Also, Podkolzin historically has played his best with Miller and Boeser. Miller really likes him.

Was good for Bains to get a look here. Lots to like about his game but he's still raw, often tried to do everything himself when he doesn't have to. If the team is tanking maybe you keep him around but down the stretch the team needs to start oiling the machine for the post-season.

Good to see Podz getting another shot. His scoring stats aren't particularly outstanding but he's not afraid to get the puck to the net and muck it up. Hope he can keep up with NHL speed this time around.

D+6 gotta show something and shouldn't be hard to out perform mik or bains etc.
Maybe with ep he fills the dirty work role and has enough skills to get them the puck, not sure he has the iq either though.

This feels like a showcase too tbh.

Will be nice to see Podkolzin back again. Hope he doesn't get too nervous, plays a hard forecheck game, keeps it simple and gets some momentum back because he has a playoff style game when confident and could be valuable to our group that looks a little soft

Really? I’m rooting for the guy but even then I see just a couple tweaks he needed to make and he could be a bottom 6 contributor next year.

I thought it was a very encouraging showing.

E: was kinda wondering when Irwin would get the call. Veteran guy who was a pretty solid bottom pair defenseman…10 years ago. Good on him.

D+5
And Irwin seems like a likely guy to just ride the press box while we have injuries on our back end.
Ill injure your back end

i think this may just be rewards and a little bit of familiarization with big team stuff for future black aces purposes. it is the last chance for call ups before they're into emergency call ups.

I'd imagine they're trying to get a handle on where he's at and if he's a realistic depth option down the stretch and into the playoffs. Also give him a chance to get a benchmark for the NHL again.

Happy to see Podkolzin back. If developed right I think he could be moved into a player that Tochett likes. Unfortunately with all of these rumors of the Canucks potentially going after another big gun, I can't help but think Podkolzin is getting showcased this time around.

Really feels like a showcase for Podkolzin given that this recent play in Abbotsford doesn’t remotely merit a call up.
Don't understand this take at all. He has been a very useful middle 6 contributor in Abby. He plays a hard game and has skills that make you think he might be better in the NHL than the AHL just because he can play with guys that know where they are supposed to be.
