Playoff games count against pretty much everything except the "accrued seasons" toward typical Group 3 UFA status. The "professional experience" and "professional seasons" definitions, as well as Group 6 all include playoff games.

The real issue with Demko is even with the "injury discount", the brass tacks are you can't count on him to be available. He's not gonna be part of a tandem when half the tandem is injured half the time. It's an inefficient use of cap space to have a guy who's going to be on IR for large stretches of the season, creating a necessity to have a reasonably good 3rd string goalie.

You take the lowered percentage chance at elite play vs zero chance at elite play.

Not too dissimilar from the Pettersson bet, only you're more assured Pettersson will play. Both seem like lower percentage bets at a ceiling that would not be there otherwise.

I think the "ceiling" is not much more than elite play for a 3-4 game stretch. At which point he gets injured or has to play an altered playstyle that is not as explosive.

I would not be confident in limiting his elite stretch to 3-4 games per year.
