Sadly, this is the end of Demko imo

There's absolutely no way we can afford to upgrade the team next year carrying almost 10M in goalies when we already have 5M in dead cap. Not to mention, Demko isn't likely to re-sign at 5M. That all being said, I'm okay moving on. Lankinen has been stellar for us, and who even knows if Demko won't go the route of Schneider.

Actually, he did have one training stint in Manitoba I believe January/February of 2011.

ok i'll pipe down now

I meant he didn't show up on the team and need several games to look NHL ready. He'd just appear back into the line-up like he was never hurt. Was one of the weirdest traits I've ever seen.

Fair for both sides I would say. He's been a very important player this year and perhaps this allows Demko to also play longer, because he won't have to shoulder the load. I would not count him out yet.

Silvos has lost everyone's confidence.

term isn't a major concern IMO. no troublesome (groin/knee/hip/concussion/back) injury history, low mileage.

bottom 1/3 cap hit in a rising cap environment isn't horrifying.

the only real risk in this deal is from role expansion, which is somewhat mitigated by having Demko around next year.

Kind of had to be done with Demko breaking down twice already since coming back from the knee injury. His career is in jeopardy IMO.

diamond did a great job here. 5 years, nmcs and ntcs and a decent salary for a tweener. i guess he thought he could get 5.5 in a cleaner deal. we'll have to see how things look this summer.

i think we gave the term and no movements to get the cap hit low enough to be able to keep demko. it was a really tight situation to navigate. let's hope it pays off.

Wonder if we move away from Pius Suter, unless he signs a sweetheart deal. As it stands, it’s going to be near impossible to improve the forwards unless someone big moves out (Boeser/Garland/??)

Lost in all of this is Toccs' complete inability to judge the health of his players.

Going back to the idiocy of overplaying Petey during garbage time of that lost season, likely contributing to his current tendinitis and costing them a player like Michkov in the draft

Unfortunately, some people don't understand that hockey isn't a video game. If you overplay your stars, they break down. Because, like, this is real life

Don’t like the term, as there’s not a ton of history to suggest he’ll keep playing at this level throughout the deal.

Given the cap increase this kind of money is fine for a 1a/1b situation. Will be interesting to monitor the Demko situation next year - they needed this kind of player given his consistent health concerns. If they move on, they’ll need to find another Lankinen level player to have league average goaltending throughout the year.

Also pretty clear that they’re expecting the defensive structure and money invested on the blue line to carry the team. With Willander and EP2 coming up in the next two years, I expect the back-end will be the key strength of the team.

Now just to get that top 6 fixed…

It definitely puts pressure on Demko to get and stay healthy (not that he has much of a choice in that...it is what it is). This deal brings some long term stability to the position without really handcuffing the team moving forward.

It's also apparent that Alvin is getting his ducks in a row well ahead of deadline day. I suspect we either hear about a Boeser extension in the next week or he will be moved.

I don't mind this. Term is a bit long but Lankinen has played well since arriving in Van. The price is good, Lanks deserves it and there really isn't many other options on the market. There no guarantee with glass house Demko either.

I am hoping Demmer comes back and the Nucks have a really good 1A/1B goaltending tandem.

This just feels bizarre

He knew his body well and his pain tolerance makes me think he had slow-progression leprosy or something. Plus, he got bit by the only venomous snake in Finland. That's just hilarious. Dude had the worst luck.

BB started this problem with Demko and Tocchet definitely made it worse.

Good signing. He's proven to be at least a solid platooning 1a/1b option, the cap hit would be tied for 19th today as far as goaltenders go and with the cap increasing, I think he could have received the same or better on the open market.

They can't count on Demko and the pickings are slim out there and organizationally.

I think he leaves the player's health up to the players.

How the hell do you diagnose a broken ankle if the player tells you it feels fine?

The player's health should be left to the players. That's where I think we f***ed up with Tanner Pearson.

OK with the deal... term and dollar $ is probably a tad high but Canucks didn't really have much choice. Factor in the increasing cap and it's a fair deal for both sides.

Demko is a huge question mark - he could either return to form or become the next Cory Schneider. Silovs' play has regressed so badly he doesn't even look like an NHL backup at this point. We really had no options. I think we ride out Demko's contract here and see how he plays. I also wouldn't be surprised if MGMT trades him this offseason for help up front. If anything this deal gives us a bit of flexibility depending on what Demko's unclear future pans out.
