You can escape your drafted team as a player drafted out of the chl by not signing after 2 years… but you are not a UFA. That unsigned player has to re enter the draft.

Often that player could be drafted in a lower round.

He may even get drafted to a worse scenario to a team that has more depth at his position.
Players don't enter the draft. It's not some kind of consensual opt-in/opt-out arrangement.

It's true that the player could be drafted again, if he is still draft-eligible when his rights expire. That has nothing to do with the player doing or not doing anything.

Frankly, I don't think any drafted player owes their draft team the time of day -- andi know you weren't suggesting that they do, either.

A change to the compensation for any pick that complete 4 years of college should be given and any team that signed him should forfeit their pick accordingly. If he is a 5th round pick, and any team that choose to sign him should give the same 5th round pick back. I think we just need to rework some of CBA for this type so that each team would invest their time by invite them to the prospect camp and teach them at the camp only for them to sign with other team. This type of movement will force the team might lose their own pick to assess if it is worth the risk. The only exemption would be if he is not signed on that certain date that would cause him to miss training camp and exhibition games risking missing out his development year in the AHL/ECHL, etc. will not be given a compensation pick back.
The NHLPA is not going to agree to that kind of disincentive to sign any unsigned free agent, no matter of draft status.

Compensation only happens in the NHL and MLB where a qualifying offer is given to a player previously under contract. It doesn't come out of the blue.

There’s something off about the 5 years of college thing. Like on the stats page it’s just aesthetically unappealing.
well, this is the final season for any player who was on an NCAA roster in 20/21 that can do a Super Senior year. I don't know of NCAA hockey players being RS like in football.

Don't foresee an NHL future for someone who opted to do a 5th year in college vs go pro and challenge himself. Probably, why he opted to return to college.

Knies and Abruzzeze say hi
Montreal has signed 6 American college players in the last few years and a couple of those players are Caufield and Hutson. They will probably sign Jacob Fowler after this year
Canucks lost a 22 year old Fifth Round Pick that's still playing college hockey. Better re-think everything.

Ok, so where does Truscott want to play?

People throw out New York in this situation everytime, and are right more than wrong, so let's say the Rangers.

Detroit? Chicago? Minnesota? I don't think his staying for 5 years of university hasn't had an affect on where he wants to play.

Anyone hear of any other places?

Boston is a popular one with the college boys.

Not Detroit. He would have very little chance here with the prospect depth on D.

Truscott back in Michigan for a graduate year.

Rumors of interest in this player were greatly exaggerated.

Posting offensive stats for a defensive defenseman doesn't seem particularly intuitive
