Rumor: Canucks Now Looking to Add Mid 20s Impact Forward

The way that is worded makes it sound like they would be willing to take on a highly salaried guy with lots of years left who may have soured in their current situation when it comes to production/availability versus contract length and hit.

So yeah, kind of like a Norris/Cozens area where they will attempt to lower the asset cost by saying "hey, we are willing to take on this big, gnarly long-term contract if you are willing to come to the table and discuss".

I'm not saying that other teams will just buy into this - but there are only so many mid-20's players making big bucks on huge deals that would even be remotely available that wouldn't be automatically completely cost-prohibitive to acquire.

So 2024 thinking, with teh cap going up 15 million in 3 years, I doubt it. But the Canucks trading one jerk off for another MAY work, and with prospects to boot..

I submitt to you : Trevor Zegras Hockey Stats and Profile at hockeydb.com

Trevor Zegras. Yeah he's falling down... but fast and young and maybe needs a beeter core around him to support him.

What would it take ? Honestly, I'd say a first and D petey

It's hard to even speculate on a price for Z, he's worth way more to Anaheim than most other teams think. Personally, I think the team needs to lock him up long term and end all the speculation.

No Cozens for picks and prospects. Thats it. No "well they can use the assets to flip for another player" crap. Buffalo is already overloaded with prospects and picks. If our GM was capable of turning them into impact players we wouldn't be having this discussion.

The only meaningful trade he has pullled off in years was Mitts for Byram. The only avenues he has right now is to try the same and flip Cozens for a similar player or try to package him along with other higher value assets like Power or Byram for an elite player. If those aren't available. There really isn't anything to discuss. If he sells a player like Cozens for prospects and picks whatever fans are left will riot.

Doubt they target anyone with a big AAV. They need to take care of Boeser and if they’re planning on keeping M. Pettersson, that’s going to cost too.

My guess is they won’t go over $6.5 AAV. So maybe someone like Schenn who can give them a couple of good years. If not someone like Cates who may just need more opportunity away from Torts.

Problem is, other teams will be after the same players.

I can't see Anaheim trading McTavish. But, I'm not up on the situation. Not sure Vancouver would trade Wilander or Lekkermaki.
I think there's next to no question they would move Lekkerimaki.

I think the only true untouchable is Willander because he seems primed to just walk into the NHL and be good and we need that ELC value given the OEL buyout penalties increasing the next two years. And we also, simply, just have a hole there.

Lekkerimaki... I think with this management group, if you're not big, or fast, you need to be obviously elite.

Maybe he puts on weight and gets a little bit quicker, which allows him to get to his spots at the NHL level more consistently. If he does, he'll score a lot. But the question is whether he's doing that by the start of next season or if he needs more time than that. And if he does, and there's someone out there right now with term that they can get, then they should move him.
