Man this thread is basically about Willander and honestly I have never seen a more unremarkable prospect in my life. He’s not ever taking Hughes off of PP, he’s not physical, he’s not a Slavin level defender, his skating is maybe above average a dman like Pellika blows his skating out of water. I see zero upside with this guy. Maybe like a Travis Dermott

And that is why you are here babbling aimlessly about subjects you have no real ability to understand instead of being employed by an NHL team. If you can't see Willander's upside that is because you lack the understanding. Not that he doesn't have it.

I will agree with one thing though. He will not be taking Hughes off PP1. But that has never been an expectation. ASP is not taking Hughes off PP1 either.

So what would Vancouver give up for Alex Tuch? There's been a lot of chatter that his wife wants him to go to Vancouver because that's where she's from. Thoughts? Ideas? He's got a very solid contract for a 2nd line player with size and mobility, good PKer too.

Isn’t Tuch from around Buffalo? Thought he wanted to be Sabre.

Take me Garland + Sherwood

He's from Syracuse (over 2 hours away) and was a Sabre fan growing up. I don't care that he wants to be a Sabre and there is enough smoke that his new gold digger bride is going to put pressure on him to go to Vancouver that I figure just get to that now.

Vancouver is a great city, that’s for sure. Just don’t see Tuch leaving the Sabres.

He’s from Syracuse but grew up a huge Sabres fan. I’m not a Sabres fan but you are correct with that statement. Player finally gets to play for the team they grew up a fan of and doesn’t seem disappointed one bit. I doubt they’ll move him.

Yup. That’s a guy to build around.

I would also say that Rosen actually has a fairly robust defensive game relative to other prospects in Buffalo previously, so I’m not sure where the one dimensional, is coming from?
Agreed Rosen is no slouch defensively. It's certainly odd to see him described as one dimensional.
Cozens makes the most sense but I agree with Sabres fans who maybe don't see a fit as far as what we have to offer.

Unless we give up good enough value that they can turn those assets into another player like we did with Hronek/M Pettersson.
This is Kevyn Adams we're talking about. The Sabres have had/still have assets up the wazoo and he's done next to nothing with them. Meanwhile the roster has glaring holes year in and year out. Glaciers move faster than Kevyn Adams.
My question is what is Cozen's realistic value? 7.1m for a guy who has issues stayong at Center and putting up 50 pts a season now. He could be a perennial 70 pt center, but will he hit it? I've read that his defensive game isn't great either.
I feel like Cozens defensive game is there when he's asked to be in that role. Early in his career they used him in a defensive match-up role against other teams top line players and he was quite good. Then he had a breakout year offensively and it seems like he's leaned more into his offensive side. I think it would benefit him to lean back into the defensive part of his game and play a little more north south than he has been.

Any talk of Willander ends immediately. He'll be on his 3 year ELC playing beside Hughes or Pettersson immediately and the value cannot be matched. It's always risky to make these assumptions but he is so polished and excels in so many areas, I just don't see him missing.

I see the Canucks going for guys that might be overpaid and need a change of scenery rather than packaging players like Lekkerimaki or Willander seeing as those two are likely to make an impact at an incredibly low cap cost as soon as next season.

With that said, they're probably more likely to give up Lekkerimaki if they get a cost controlled 24-28 year old top 6 C/W from a rebuilding team that is accumulating young players.

Cozens, Tippett, Crouse, Novak, and a guy like Zetterlund could be reasonable targets. Norris may have been a candidate but why would Ottawa trade him right now? Zegras would get eaten alive by Tocchet.
You are not getting Cozens unless a C or true right handed RD under 25 is coming back.

Crosby texted Tocchet, make it happen Allvin :sarcasm:

Sidney Crosby texted Tocchet about Pettersson & O’Connor; said they were good locker room guys and players

I dont buy the wife want him to move closer to where she is from. That stuff could happen post career.

He grew up a sabres fan. I feel he wantsl to retire a sabre.

Hes a UFA in 26 so anything is possible. See what happens in summer and doing an extension. If no extension then things could happen.

Not enough to make it worthwhile. I think they look for a good middle 6 player to pair with a bad expiring contract to lessen the blow of the return

McTavish rumors out of Anaheim also might fit the bill. He's not a Verbeek pick, and seems to have stagnated/regressed a bit (though who under that coaching staff hasn't?).

He's caught fire lately. And even if they move him it's likely Anaheim adding to him to try and upgrade, as opposed to trading him for lesser parts.

I kind of wonder about Troy Terry there as well though. He'd be a really interesting add who would probably be dynamite with Pettersson if Verbeek isn't too attached to him.

Verbeek is the one who extended him, more than a year after taking over the job.

The Ducks need to add/develop guys into top 6 roles if they're ever going to dig out of the rebuild. Not subtract from that.

What smoke is there that she is going to put pressure on him to go to Van?

If true you can’t blame her, if her family is there and they have kids she probably wants help and to be around family when he’s on the road, this happens. It happened to us with Luongo and maybe Miller.

I hear you - that contract is probably the sticking point for other GMs. It's a big gamble given how Cozens has performed, but at the same time, selling low on an asset is rough - see Canucks and JT Miller. As another poster mentioned, trading Cozens for picks+young players and then flipping those for what the Sabres actually need might be the play.

Whenever I get a chance to watch a Sabres team they look soft on the forecheck, I figured getting players that are aggressive along the boards and aren't afraid to go to the net would be most desired. About time that team started making a push to compete - the on roster defense and depth forwards doesn't look bad at all.

McTavish reminds me of a young JT Miller. He’s got a ton of potential. The cost to get a guy like that, who is only going to get better, will be way out of Van’s price range.

I was thinking is more him then his wife. I do agree that he wants to retire with Buffalo though pending they screw him over.

isnt his gal from BC

Vancouver
-Tom willander/lekkarimaki
-2nd round pick
-Nils hoglander

Anaheim
-Mason McTavish

Who says no, and if so how would you balance it
I can't see Anaheim trading McTavish. But, I'm not up on the situation. Not sure Vancouver would trade Wilander or Lekkermaki.
