That is brutal for the Canucks. Norris does not have that kind of value.

i'd do that in a second if i were the canucks but i'm in the camp that believes the canucks will keep boeser for a playoff push and then let him walk in free agency. turning him into norris instead would be fantastic

joshua and silovs are whatever

The way that is worded makes it sound like they would be willing to take on a highly salaried guy with lots of years left who may have soured in their current situation when it comes to production/availability versus contract length and hit.

So yeah, kind of like a Norris/Cozens area where they will attempt to lower the asset cost by saying "hey, we are willing to take on this big, gnarly long-term contract if you are willing to come to the table and discuss".

I'm not saying that other teams will just buy into this - but there are only so many mid-20's players making big bucks on huge deals that would even be remotely available that wouldn't be automatically completely cost-prohibitive to acquire.
well if the other team would give them up due to attitude/health issues nor didn't pan out, why on earth would they target someone like that...

and 28/29 and 29/30

He is signed for 5 more seasons after this one. His contract covers years 28-29 and 29-30 as well. 5 years. Not 3. Where are you getting 3 years?
Absolutely you are correct and I made a mistake. I was looking at the contract on PuckPedia and they present the length very strangely - the graphic went 4 years, then said UFA. But he is signed longer than that.

So are the Canucks trying to recreate the PLD or Chychrun trades to target a struggling asset and give up little for it?

or

Are they legit looking to find an impact forward in their prime signed long term? If that is true then goodbye Willander and a 1st and another future 2nd etc.

I fear it's the latter and it's a mistake IMO. The team has no depth because they keep trading futures in order to secure playoff spots. They are trying to do it with mirrors and it's unlikely to work for them. More likely they thrash around in mediocre land and occasionally have a terrible season and end up in the lottery with no 1st round pick, and no acquired deadline picks, which means nothing to show for it.

When Colorado was emerging to contender status they still had slip ups and they had the Makar and Byram/Newhook drafts to show for it. You don't fight the disaster years. You do a quick one year retool and load up again the next season.

For me that means dealing Suter, Boeser, Lankinen (or Demmer), and O'Connor. Harvest picks and reload and rebalance at the draft. This may not be a Makar year for us but it could be a Byram/Newhook equivalent. If we sign M Petterson then we have a key missing piece in place for next year. If Boeser wants to be here at reasonable dollars and term, great. But I'd be prepping to move on.

I feel like we are at Lou Lam levels of desperation and going to harvest a similar reward.

Now if we went the Caps route and tried to find undervalued situations and distressed assets, that's another story entirely.
