Why are we suggesting to trade Buium….?
Would only make sense if the Canucks drafted Reid/Carels and were able to trade Buium for a high potential forward ala the Cutter Gauthier/Jamie Drysdale swap. But it would have to be a really good young center. Depends entirely how you view Buium’s upside though, whether you feel he can be a true, #1 defender.

I just see high end players getting off loser teams chasing low tax/competitive teams. Is there any difference between this and Larkin (US on a US team) and Marner (Canadian on a Canadian team).

Hellybuk is bailing on a washed up Jets.

Nobody wants to be ing garbage teams, let alone bad teams in cold climates.

Do some research. Larkin has issues with the management, marner left as a UFA.
What you just said further reinforces why we should not take Chase Reid. You wanted to sound smart by bashing the underperforming teams when clearly there’s a pattern US players not wanting to stay in Canada. And since we don’t have good weather here we are done for.

Edit: Fun fact, Drance thinks the return for Brady is better than the return for Hughes  The man loves the concept of a draft pick more than the pick itself, it's hilarious.
Drance is an idiot. Buium > 9th, Rossi > 25th, Ohgren > Conditional 2nd and unless that Florida pick becomes a lottery pick, the Minnesota 1st and future Florida first are pretty negligible.

Maybe hes saying in terms of the value of asset that was traded away.

As in Hughes is like twice the player Tkachuk is, therefore should have returned twice as much as him.

Ppl that find themselves regularly (intermittently, infrequently) agreeing with Drance should really use that as a self evaluation point, not just about your bad hockey takes either.

Does Robertson sign a long term contract extension through his prime with Ottawa though? Hes gotta come with an extension. I doubt he wants to be in Ottawa for the remainder of his career. If he does then sign me up.

If anyone doesn't view Buium as having 1D (i.e. top-32 D-man in the league) upside, then it is very obvious they should be trying to trade Buium while he still has "elite prospect" reputational value.

I don't wanna get my hopes up, even after all of this, i don't see us getting a 1st for debrusk, unless theres more to the deal.
No reason to get hopes up, but I think its a realistic possibility. It's just more the unsexy last resort option for Ottawa. I'd assume they want to combine both picks to get someone roughly equivalent to Tkachuk, but if that fails they need someone and likely not going to find better on the UFA market.

The issue is the only guys on the market worth the 9th overall pick are American players who are unlikely to want to sign/be traded there. The 25th pick I imagine is as good as gone.

Also anyone saying weak draft is delusional. Even Pronman, who called it weak, came out later in a Q&A on Reddit and said that every draft he's ever covered is about the same from 16 onwards, and that he's generally talking about the top of the class & the depth in the lottery range when talking about strength.

Edit: Fun fact, Drance thinks the return for Brady is better than the return for Hughes  The man loves the concept of a draft pick more than the pick itself, it's hilarious.

I mean, this move could be kind of akin to the mini rebuild that he wanted us to do unless OTT trades the picks for roster players? But yeah, unless you hate Buium or think FLA is a lottery team in 3 years I don't see how they got better value

What's everybody's scenario's by the end of the draft?

For me:

Best Case: Trade Debrusk + EP40 for a good package.
Move up in the draft as well and get another top 15 pick.
Middle Case: Trade bare minimum Debrusk for a 2nd + 3rd (Value)
Worse Case: No Trades at all, and just make our picks.

I understand we don't have to trade Debrusk and ep40 by the end of the draft, I just feel it would be the easiest time to do so, would be disappointed if 1 or the other is not gone by then.

As for Hronek, He is not gonna get moved imo, so don't care either way.
Boeser is an interesting maybe.

Realistically, I don't think Hronek will be moved. JDB trade shouldn't be hard.

As for Pete, naturally you'd think this off season with the pool of UFAs being pretty shallow, it should not be too hard to make a decent trade. But I really doubt our front office has it in them to pull it off. So more likely than not we'll end up with him in the line up to start next season, and hoping that he'll at least play up his value, and not...you know, continue to mope around and/or get hurt and torpedo what little worth he has left.

Edit: I deleted the tweet attached but gist was. Jason Robertsons current girlfriend is from Kingston, Ontario and went to Queens. They met when he played for the Frotenacs. And that this might be a reason why he would be okay playing for the Senators.

There's no chance those 3 pieces are available though.

There's 2 separate aspects to the trade as far as I'm concerned.

One is that Ottawa got brutalized by this trade request and every Canadian team is now on notice, if they weren't before, about the behaviour of the Americans. They are a worse team and it will be extremely difficult to salvage this situation.

Two is that they made the best of a bad situation. The other teams on his list didn't have anything better that could reasonably have been made available. Ottawa had no other option - say they decided instead to hold on to the disgruntled captain and throw away next season to force him to open up his list, all he has to do is leak that he's going to ufa if it isn't his preferred destination and his value completely tanks, plus it's a lost season for nothing.

9th doesn't do anything for them right now but they will be able to flip the pick for something and I expect them to choose this option. If they use the pick I still expect their selection to be trade bait for the foreseeable future.

Well then Brady shouldn't have been available - simple as that. Either he expands the list of teams he's open to going to, or one of those teams pony up. You're trading your face of the franchise - you don't hastenly do this type of move, you have to nail it, I don't think Ottawa nailed it at all.

I do agree with your point about all Canadian teams being on notice, with that being said. Unless a prospect is significantly better than his peers/on a different tier, as long as MAGA is a thing, you have to skip on the American.

Moving those picks for him would be the one move that would salvage this situation for Ottawa - unless the plan is to middle out and waste the prime years of Sanderson (Who has made comments about being used to 'playing an away game at home' due to other teams fans easily taking over Scotiabank Centre, he's someone that might request a trade at some point in the future) and Stutzle, you need to do this type of move.

Fact is, draft is not believed to be strong after the first 10 or so.

Also, with such a weak UFA group we could see more massive deals than we’ve seen in a very long time.

Makie, Raddysh, Tkachuk…think we will see some more massive trades leading up to the draft.

Captain obvious but I think DeBrusk goes for a late 1st or maybe a 2nd and 3rd type deal.

I also think we could see a surprise deal. Maybe a Lankinen or Demko?

Demko for a conditional 1st? If he plays 25 games it’s a 1st. Less than 25 it’s a 2nd?

They really need to create some roster spots. Mancini doesn’t have a spot. Are Raty and Hoglander a part of the future?

I will say as I ramble that I’m very hesitant to move EP40 unless they’ve identified him as a culture problem. How can you bring in guys like Cootes and or Malhotra without any kind of insulation.

agree with all of this
