honest question, has Cam Robinson even shown that he's got any kind of insider contacts? Or does he just speculate and act like he does?
I think there were rumblings here that he might’ve been a management-chosen mouthpiece to leak things out near the deadline, but haven’t seen any evidence or big hits yet? This one is a pretty soft one as well.

Pretty funny how Dhaliwal immediately refutes this to clear up any rule breaking. Probably his agent that saw the tweet

At the time it was the right move. Miller was and still is a player with a much higher ceiling then Horvat. real easy to go back in time and say "we should have done this" Revisiting the trade up until this season and the way things went off the rails I think most would have agreed with this sentiment.

Let's not forget Miller was an ABSOLUTE BEAST for us..........and accomplished things Horvat could only dream of. Shame it ended the way it did but let's cut with this should have done this bs........

I think for us fans its fine to say in hindsight... but I do think management has more insight than we do, and should have traded Miller... as they tried to do before, a few times, then now traded him for the exact same package...

Eliteprospects has given him an avenue and a much better list of contacts than Canucks army ever did.

and never winger depth.... or top end winger depth.
Solutions
Become at least half decent at drafting in the first round, stop trading away first and second round picks for rentals, don't sign bad UFA contracts and last but not least trade players that have exceeded their values when that option presents itself and it makes sense.

Absolutely. We all know Dhali only talks to NHL agents, but we can be pretty sure that there is an agreement that Willander was playing two years and going pro, and I bet that they all know roughly what the ELC is going to look like. It'll be a max ELC base, with the max signing bonus of 90k like all the others, and maybe some schedule A/B bonuses similar to a Top-10 drafted prospect. Those bonuses will probably be pretty hard for Willander to hit without playing PP time though.

Lots of people penciling in Mancini as the 6th guy next year - curious as to why. He’s flashed more skill than I thought he would, but he’s gotten buried in his limited minutes so far.

The main reason he’s seeing ice time is management likes the RH/LH split, which makes it tough for D Petey to get on the ice given how great Forbert has been.

Once Willander is available (this season), I’m pretty sure he’s going to outplay Mancini and take his spot.

Unless he rapidly develops over the summer, best case scenario for the team is he’s the #8 guy/1st call-up next season for the inevitable 20+ games we’ll play with 2+ injuries on the back end. You really don’t want to force him into a spot when those injuries occur that he’s playing 20+ high leverage minutes a night.

$$$$ and because Willander spending time in the A working on offense could raise his ceiling.

Hughes - Hronek
MP3 - Myers
Jr - Mancini
Forbort (UFA) - Willander

Demko
Lankinen

Defense and goaltending look good, just need to sign some 9th/10th defenseman, because after those 8 guys our options are Mynio and Kudryavstev, no other defenseman signed for next year.

But we have a big forward issue right now.

Just categorizing them:
1st Line player: Pettersson
Top 6er: Boeser (UFA)
2nd liner: Debrusk
Middle 6er: Garland, Suter (UFA), Chytil
3rd liner: Hoglander
Bottom 6er: Blueger, Joshua, Sherwood, DOC,
4th liner:
13th forward, 14th+: Karlsson (may be upped one, been decent recently), Aman
No idea, hope for some good progression: Lekkerimaki, Raty

I think we should move out Chytil for whatever we can, he isn't a 2nd line center, too injury prone and I'd rather resign Suter to something less than he is making. He's also 25 so I imagine his buyout would be really cheap, worst case.

Sign Suter to something like 3.75x4
Forbort to 1x1
Willander ELC

Leaves us about 13.1 million to sign some top end forwards. Could get like 2 Debrusk type players or try to go for a star. Can also resign Boeser if it's 8 or under (unlikely??).

Hoglander ?? - Pettersson - ?
Debrusk - ? - Lekkerimaki ??
Joshua- Suter - Garland
DOC - Blueger - Sherwood
Others: Aman, Karlsson, Raty
UFA: Boeser

I wonder if we could get like Brock Nelson, Mikael Granlund or Duchene on a 7.5x2 or something like that? Jack the dollars to keep the term low, Don't know if we would wanna do more than 2 years on guys like them with Hughes expiring in 2 years. Then sign another winger around 5m.

I do worry about having 3 rookie D in the lineup. I don't think that will happen, either Mancini or Willander will be in the AHL I would imagine. It seems prudent to pursue a "Forbort" type for the RD unless they are willing to play EP25 there all year, but that is doubtful they will purposely dress a LD on RD all year. Really depends on whether Willander can step right in. If so, then DPetey is the perfect 7th dman. Good looking D group though.

When you look at the forwards you've penciled in it can't be more obvious to me that Hoglander shouldn't be regarded as a top 6 player in our set up, or any teams who have lofty goals. We have way to many bottom 6 wingers in Hogs, Joshua, Sherwood, DOC, Karlsson, and even Lekkerimaki, and Raty should be considered there. It's a no brainer to move Hogs and his $3 mil imo. Either him or Joshua should be moved for cap space.

Personally I have always liked Brock Nelson a lot. If we can't get a couple of the higher profile guys I wouldn't mind seeing him signed for a 2-3 years. I would also take the other 2 on short term deals if that's the only options. I do however think there is a strong possibility we see an off the charts move to shore up the top 6.

I like it though. Great breakdown!

Tocchet
  • Has not decided he wants to leave Vancouver; no decision about his future has been made
  • No truth to any rumours
  • “Has a long standing representative in Steve Mountain”
  • Mountain will be ready, any time, if the Canucks call and talk about an extension
  • Canucks have an option in his contract
  • Hard to believe Tocchet wants to return on a one-year contract
  • If they sign him, it will be with term
  • Tocchet respects the relationship with Allvin and Rutherford; they have been good to him
  • Will be a lot of interest if he becomes available; could be coaching opportunities with the Bruins, Rangers, Blackhawks, Penguins, Ducks, and more
  • Not accurate that he’s going to the Flyers
  • Him remaining in Vancouver can happen under the right circumstances

With how thin this year's UFA crop is for impact forwards, I feel like Brock Nelson is getting a long-ish term deal somewhere.

Even at 33 years old. Last off-season Chris Tanev got a 6 year deal at 34 years old.

Brock Nelson is going to get paid by someone and I think for more tan just 2-3 years. Unless he really wants to pick his landing spot, in which case he's probably eyeing one of the contending teams.

he gone

Yes he is leagues better than Domi/Laughton. Vastly better defensively than both, and arguably better offensively too (certainly more than Laughton). Also an elite PKer, which Laughton is bad at and Domi can't do. Domi/Laughton are also less effective centers than Suter - Laughton's already been demoted to 4LW on TOR, and mostly played wing in Philly this season. Would TO swap them for Suter? I dunno, but that's more because Treliving is a bad GM - the Laughton trade was horrible in the first place.

WSH has a good thing going on. I don't think they would rock the boat just because. But Suter is a better all-around player than Eller/Dowd, who it sounds like you agree are more suited to pure defensive deployment. McMichael/Protas aren't centers and don't play center at the NHL level.

Yeah TOR would've been much better off with Suter instead of trading for Laughton based on reputation. His PK/defensive value alone would've been a massive boon to the Leafs' 3rd line, not to mention his cap hit.

He doesn't wow you with any standout physical traits like size or speed... he's just effective in his role as a middle 6 utility two-way guy. This is the exact type of player that tends to get underrated - even on our own board lol.

Thought the Isles offered him 4 and he said no
