Not saying they are, but it’s incredible that no one had the Canucks in on DeBrusk, Sherwood, Heinen, Forbort or Desharnais. Like, not a whisper. Friedman posted a team by team breakdown before free agency opened and he had bupkis on the Canucks.

They run a tight ship.

All the noise was about Guentzel, which in retrospect might have been a misdirection from the Canucks to hide their true target.

You guys have any guesses on which defensemen the team could target this season?

Either upcoming UFAs or 'hockey deals'?

Isn't the way LTIR works is you have take the salary cap and be at it or under it inducing your LTIR players salary, for the start of the season. Once the season starts, you can bring other players in up to the amount of space your have (right now $240K) and the amount of the LTIR ($2.5 M), but you have to use up the cap space first.

Edit - and I am really pulling for Pods to have one hell of a year.

I think it's less the cap space you have, not combined with the player on LTIRs hit.

So using your numbers the Canucks would have 2.06m in cap space placing Poolman on LTIR. That's why the team would try to be as close to "zero" cap space as possible before putting anyone in LTIR.

I think this is a good time to reflect on the number of decent depth players going for under $2mil that are filling rosters today and yesterday.

A good annual reminder not fret on losing fringe players... That turnover in the depth of the lineup is usually healthy...

Well it actually doesn't matter how much cap space they have, they just have to use it up first. There isn't really any advantage to being close, other than they can maximize the LTIR cap space. But if they had $1M in cap space, they could go sign a player at $3.5M.

It's because Rick is always sooooo drunk off of near constant abuse of Crown Royal that he is grumpy. The hangovers.
Think all his sources were sick of him firing out every word he heard, I'm sure alot of them spoke that he should keep some stuff in the pocket, but being the reporter he is, he gotta blurt everything out. Now they prob just feed him lots of nonsense to throw him off til he learns to stfu about things haha

Chychrun
Pionk
Provorov
Doubt chycrun given he just moved. Unless Washington is doa he's prob there for the year. Provorov of the 3 I can see. Would love pionk but beyond Wpg fans saying he was a buyout option I don't see them moving him if they competing either.

For the more cap/LTIR saavy, there was a post in /r/canucks saying that trading Poolman's LTIR contract for Bear would be advantageous in terms of accruing cap space. Is this accurate?

That is a ugly looking defense. Hopefully I'm proven wrong, but I think these type of defense are expected when you have Hughes and Hronek taking most of the ice time. But one injury to these two and we are done.

That's true but it was also the tight rope we were walking last year to start the season and management managed to sort it out. They have shown they can augment the defence with fringe players. I trust they won't just hope for the best.
