Tampa just gets it. They have their core all in their primes, they are all locked up long term and they'll get the benefits of rising cap. There is no point drafting in the first round for the next few years.

They know those 1sts are never going to play with either of those two, and when those two inevitably retire, it will be time to go full scorched earth anyways.

Also Brock really is a modern day, better, more responsible version of Michael Ryder. The guy is great if you can staple him to a playmaker who can create, but outside of his shot he's not going to drive the play on his own. If he and Petey had good chemistry I could see a long-term fit here, but given the dearth of centers & play drivers on this team I don't know if he fits beyond this season.

I’m shocked that sellers in the NHL are typically so focused on getting picks for the immediate draft and not for later seasons.

With Tampa’s aging roster—going after a 1st in 2027 is a pretty smart bet on them fading.

Only way Suter gets traded is if they have a long term C coming in, im betting they keep him and find that C in the offseason.

Cant see them moving out both Soucy and Forbort with Hughes’ injury.

Boeser gets traded for an underwhelming return.

Tampa and Florida are such well ran franchises.

It’s a bit weird to move him while you’re talking about keeping Boeser as an own rental to make the playoffs. Given relative levels of play and position, Suter is arguably more important to their immediate playoff push today than Boeser.

I made this point yesterday. But it would make even less sense to trade Suter over Boeser considering that Boeser likely has more value as well.

For all of the "own rental" talk, I'm not totally against it. I was for holding onto Lankinen, and I am for holding onto Suter. If you have players, who are relatively large contributors to your team, it doesn't make sense to trade them at the deadline for second or third round picks or whatever if your team has a reasonable chance at the playoffs.

But Boeser is the opposite, where I think his perceived value may be higher than his actual value to the team, and the team should capitalize on that.

Of course, if the Canucks could get a first for Suter, then you have to entertain that idea.
