At this point, if there’s a Canuck who is likely to be dealt, put Suter at the top of your list. Based on conversations with a variety of sources, it’s likely he is getting moved, echoing what CHEK-TV’s Rick Dhaliwal suggested on Tuesday morning, that the Swiss forward does not seem set to sign a new contract and the Canucks are likely to move him.

Of course they would need to bring in a new centre, so if he is moved, it would not be surprising to see a bigger name coming in a concurrent deal. The Canucks were reportedly close to a couple of deals on the weekend, sources say, but the scale of those potential deals is not know.

This reads like Suter is moved, return is packaged for a top 6 C, Boeser is kept and walks as a UFA.

i wonder if there’s a team that would throw their late 1st for Suter.
Would guess at least a 2nd (basing this on today's today which saw Frederic return a 2nd and a 4th). Not sure a 1st is realistic but if that's on the table then can't see us passing on it.

Pettersson has been even worse since JT left.

Which makes the JT excuse while he was still here pretty much toothless.

Sigh...

JT Miller wasn't the real reason for why Pettersson hasn't played well.

I don't doubt it contributed, I think many things did.

I also think it wasn't strictly a Pettersson v Miller thing.

There is also no doubt Miller made the dressing room worse. And he is now gone... thus my reply.

My read in the situation is they have a good idea what it'll take to resign Boeser but want to keep their options open until Friday in case someone offers them a deal too good to pass or Boeser is willing to take 5 years.

The other part I wonder if they'll trade Suter for say a 2nd and then flip that with perhaps Hoglander for someone like Josh Norris. The holdup here might just be they would want Ottawa to retain some salary (perhaps up to $1M per year).

If they can get Norris and Boeser for $14.5M to $15M (Norris at $7M and Boeser at $7.5M to $8.0M) I would have to imagine they would be satisfied with that.

If Debrusk is a believer then so am I.

I don't doubt the sincerity of Debrusk.

But like someone said, words carry less and less meaning in the face of reality. I know this extremely well because when I was finishing my nursing school preceptorship I was not doing well, and my repeated promise to improve plus failure to actually do so only served to annoy my preceptor nurse, to the point where she actually told me to stop talking and just work.

It is a very unfun situation to be in, but the only way to put an end to it is to shove that chunk of rubber into the net or show everyone, through observable actions, that he is doing everything he can to achieve his best.

This is inline with what I expect will happen. Or at the least what the Canucks plans are.

I think I might know why your supervisor was pissed off, that doesn't seem like a priority in a hospital

The report of them having been close to a couple of trades on the weekend is interesting, too.

My updated guess is we move Suter for assets, and flip those assets plus some to obtain a top six C, thereby upgrading the C position rather than staying as we are (or going for a rental).

If Debrusk is a believer then so am I.

Between this and Petey's own ambiguous words, it's clear the Canucks propaganda machine has pivoted towards another braindead idea

Of course, I preferred the false character assassination. Kinda stupid to paint your star as lazy and pouty and difficult to get along with, then try to spin it this way

Upshot is no one in the league will take Petey off their hands, management is going to have to move mountains for some time to come to distract from their colossal effup of a $96m long term investment

Even when he was on the team this season the Canucks were struggling to generate goals and scoring chances. Miller lost all his goodwill with the fanbase for the way he handled the first few months of the season. Quit on the team at multiple times during games, had shouting matches with Tocchet on the bench, and wasn't able to resolve a dispute with a teammate that was so hostile it prompted the team into being forced to trade him. The team would be in a worse state today if he was still around, sulking on the ice and creating a toxic environment.

It's great for him that he's back to having success with the Rangers, but it's clear with how he played for the Canucks this season that he wasn't going to be that player for us. I've been a big fan of both Miller and Pettersson in the past but it was incredibly disappointing to see how poorly they both handled the situation, essentially tanking the teams chance of remaining a contender. I'm pretty sour on both of them at the moment, but it was clear from the limited information that's come out that a move of Miller off the team was necessary, the only question was if Pettersson was going to be moved as well.

Happy for JT, glad he's producing well in NY.

As for Petey, what a disappointment he's been this year. This is some Huberdeau level shit.

Big takeaways seem to be:

- not trading anyone with term, but open to dealing UFAs.

- decision on a Boeser trade depends on what is offered - market is lukewarm so far.

- team is looking to buy on mid-20s players with term. Any assets from rentals would be done with an eye to be used for that purpose.
