I have to agree with MS...teams are not going to give up on playoffs when firmly in the race. The aggressiveness in moves might change but trying to make the playoffs won't.

We see "only two home playoff games". Management sees the ability to sell consecutive years in the playoffs along with a Norris winner to potential UFAs and in contract negotiations with those they have the rights.

That said, I still think keeping him without a contract in place is a mistake. At the very least you need to know you are close to a deal if you take that option.

Hes trying out there and comes out of the gate flying to start games. As the game goes on he clearly is labouring due to my guess of just not having the stamina. This is likely due to not being able to train much in the offseason. The rest of it is clearly mental, he starts sperging out and bums himself out. Hes fully in his own head since the start of February, he knows what he needs to do out there but starts second guessing his every move when he has the puck. Its just a downward spiral at this point since nothing is going right for him

All the Canucks do is flip picks, so you'd think people would be used to it by now.

Dhaliwal now saying Boeser wants "7-8 years", good Lord.
Of course he does even he knows his skating only gonna tank harder as he gets older. Secure the bag when you can I just hope with someone else and not Vancouver.

Yeah, I'm not going to comment too much on such a polarizing topic, because we've exploded this topic, justly.

But you're probably right here.

We're thinking of going to Croatia for vacation this June, but I kinda feel a sudden push to see Sweden, just for the hell of some deduction on Swedish culture and personalities as a Canucks fan lol.

Oh yes crazy talk to seriously think we are gonna unload much (basically Boeser and Pettersson)for picks/B prospects when you're in a playoff race.

Certainly should be looking to make some alterations and be in on anything that they can parlay into a better long term situation though but that's not exclusive to deadlines

The way these guys operate i wouldn't rule out yet another 3 way deal though so we'll see

Brock Boeser
  • Was offered a contract in the first half of the regular season and the was some back and forth; didn’t sway the Boeser side
  • Original contract offer isn’t on the table anymore
  • Management is having conversations with other teams about trading him
  • Feels like another contract offer is a stretch
  • Probably willing to give a bit of a hometown discount but maybe that time is now behind him
  • There’s a sense that his game is negatively influenced by all the speculation
  • He’s a team-first guy
Canucks Trade Needs
  • Really difficult to make a hockey trade
  • Canucks are not interested in the rental market
  • Most definitely looking for a centreman
  • Is mindful of the conversations that he’s sure Allvin has had with other GMs that started in the off-season for players that they aren’t speculating on; centres that are available in the right scenario
  • Won’t mention a team or names but has heard some stuff
  • Canucks are definitely targeting centres we aren’t speculating on and aren’t on tradebait lists; not a trade of Pettersson
  • Carson Soucy could be involved and then other pieces
  • Would make sense if it’s a team that is real close in the East to the playoffs that doesn’t have centre depth but is close and would like to add some other pieces; mentions a depth forward and Carson Soucy
  • Canucks want to make the playoffs more than get assets
Buffalo Sabres
  • Numerous and strong offers for their players but want to make hockey trades
St. Louis Blues
  • Ask for Brayden Schenn is enormous
  • St. Louis is a smallish market so the playoff revenue makes a big difference
Philadelphia Flyers
  • Can probably get a 1st round pick for Scott Laughton with the lack of available centres
Elias Pettersson
  • Those close to Pettersson don’t believe he’ll get traded before the TDL
Carson Soucy
  • Is on every single trade bait board
  • Was some dialogue with his camp 2 weeks ago; belief was there’d be a trade scenario that would unfold
  • Plenty of time to still trade him
  • His NMC and young family make a trade a little more difficult
  • Has been relatively quiet from the initial gesture to now
  • Lots of competitive reasons for Soucy to consider waiving his NMC
  • Doesn’t believe the Canucks have a list of teams he’d accept a trade to
  • Defence market is pretty thin
  • Would be fair to compare Cody Ceci and Carson Soucy
Forbort & Suter
  • Low level conversations on extensions
  • Not on the front burner

Sounds like they're trying to acquire Norris.

Would allow them to run Norris-Chytil as their top two centers for the remainder of the season, which isn't great but will allow them to stay in the playoff hunt and take some of the focus off of Pettersson for now so they can deal with him in the offseason.

They'd be acquiring Hughes' best friend and Chytil and Norris are both 25 which fits the age of our core better. Problem is they're both incredibly injury prone players.

Horvat for the Canucks mid 1st and Aatu Raty :sarcasm:

Could just be squeezing out every last drop of cap space before the deadline...or a trade incoming

looks like Arshdeep Bains has been returned to Abbotsford. Was at Canucks practice yesterday, but on longer showing on their NHL roster. Roster at 22 for the moment. - Paterson

Edit: But if they were just trying to accrue a bit more cap space I'd imagine they'd send down EP2 and Mancini as well?

The roster juggling for cap maximization has been a spectacle this season. What have the actual savings been?

Unpopular I know already, (re: i know already, most haters gonna hate) but I'd be interested in buy FC low on J. Skinner. Yeahhh yeah selke defense, next kuz, and tocchet whatever, he's being massively misused in edm, and atleast this calendar year, hasn't been a disaster while producing plus results when in the top six.
Can skate, make okay plays, and really can shoot, which we could use, and obviously will be motivated to get next years contract.

I mean, we were playing an injured Hughes and went 11-7 instead of playing Bains. I think they’re just returning him to where he belongs.

Skinner cant skate anymore. He's below 50th percentile in every skating category and his shot is gone. He's probably out of the league pretty soon.

Am I the only one who thinks a playoff mandate from ownership is a low bar?

Half the league makes the playoffs, and before the most recent expansions, it was more than half the league.
