I wasn’t around for the Messier days but back then any idiot could call into a local station and voice their voice.

Now we have twitter which just shortens the feedback loop for stupidity to flow faster now with zero breaks and now people double down because they think they are the majority. Echo chambers.
Our club was so bad in the 70’s and 80’s. Tickets were cheap though. 10-20 bucks got a fan in the door. Some seats were even two for 15! It was affordable fun. And the players weren’t payed so much that they were seen as greatly different than normal working class. We all had off days at work so accepted their limitations too. Heck most players back then had a second job.
Maybe now with tickets so expensive and players being paid salaries that put them into the elite class, fans don’t relate to them, so some get overly upset with player’s performance? How often do we read here how much Petey gets paid?

Chester tweets a lot of perennially online stuff but he’s right about who will be the most upset about booing 40.

43.

But yeah, also if you feel strongly about 40’s conditioning and attitude, go for it. I don’t blame anyone for any emotional reactions. It sucks. Everything about this has sucked.
Why would Hughes care?

So someone is going to trade something of value for a goalie who may not even play in the playoffs, and you have no idea how many games he can play next year. Starting goalies usually get a 2nd if they are not a star. Demko will get what? A 5th? Is that a smart move for the Canucks? Selling low for no reason?

Ummm, and why did we sign Lankinen to term? Because we trust Demko can play? You think other teans don't consider the same issues? Use some common sense

You know its ok to say, ya I didn't think of that, vs doubling down on stupidity because of ego
Obviously they can't trade Demko when he's on IR and this is all contingent on him being available before the deadline. This is also contingent IF management believes Lankinen is their guy and they deem they can give up Demko to address their abysmal forward group. For another team, it's a calculated risk. That's why they're likely not gonna pay a premium like Demko would normally demand. I've already given examples of teams that could gamble on Demko given their other goaltending and cap. Of course the Lankinen deal won't give negotiation power to the Canucks - a bidding war probably would if teams find out Demko is indeed available.

I don't understand your pick examples at all but okay. What does a 2nd for a non star goalie have to do with Demko who's shown elite performance for years now.

Goalie trades in the last year:
Markstrom for a 1st and Bahl
Askarov + Burke + 3rd for Edstom + Chrona + 1st
Logan Thompson for 2 3rd round picks
Ulmark for Korpisalo + Kastelic + 1st
Keumper for Dubois

I really don't understand your vitriol here. It's a hockey discussion, not some discussing about fundamental differing policy or socioeconomic views. '"Doubling down on stupidity because of ego" - lmao, gimme a break.

Demko is damaged goods until he can string together a healthy season

No one is trading for him unless its a cap dump imho

If he can play a full year healthy next year, he has alot of value and teams will line up

Look at how many teams didn't want to touch Boeser 2 years ago, we couldn't give him away and then he scores 40 and even with a slightly down year is a prized deadline rental

Gotta think man, GM's don't gamble when it comes to cap and injuries

What the? Two of the examples listed just above our GMS taking risks with goalies with injuries

There's a big difference between a goalie who is currently injured and healing and a goalie who has been injured every season for the last 4 and has had 3 surgeries.

He's had one injury free season in his entire career and has had hip and knee surgeries, those MATTER for goalies, my lord.

jesus

just stop you're reaching here

This is where we disagree and that's fine. GMs literally gamble all the time when it comes to cap and injuries - look at free agency and the deals I've already mentioned where someone with an injury history is getting traded. Chris Tanev of all players got a nice deal from Calgary despite his injury history. Sean Monahan was a cap dump because he was a huge liability at his cap but when he got away from Calgary, he got his game back and was flipped for a first Byram with his concussion history was traded for Mittelstadt.

Demko has been injured every season except one in his entire career) and has had 3 surgeries.

This isn't about a broken collar bone from a shot, he has CONSISTENTLY, had injuries and surgeries for key areas required to be successful as a goalie

You're ignoring that fact and pretending like its not something that would concern anyone. As I said before, its the SAME reason, the canucks signed Lankinen to a 5 year deal. Demko cannot be relied on to be healthy going forward, no GM is stupid and doesn't understand how important hips and knees are to not only hockey players but particularly goalies.

You be you man

All surgeries matter to all players. The type of surgeries matter as not all are the same. Pretty sure he had a double labral and FAI release surgery in order to create more joint space. The surgery sucks but it allows goaltenders that have restrictions at terminal ranges to continue to perform at an elite level for a long time until it eventually catches up to them in their mid-late 30s. He had a rare popliteus injury - I've treated these a few times and they're super easy to miss - which is why he probably f***ed it up again in April of last year. This was reported as such.

Most of Demko's issues have come from being heavily overplayed in a system that required him to make way too many out of system saves because the team in front of him was ass. Probably why Tanev got injured so much. The teams I've suggested that may be interested could much better handle his workload.

GMs will see that an elite goalie that's signed to a very cheap contract for next season may be available. There really isn't much in terms of long term risk and when teams have a surplus of assets, they're willing to part with them.

These aren't unreasonable claims. It's also why I don't think he'll get a huge return but enough of one that the Canucks can address key issues, especially if they believe Lankinen is the real deal.

Oh - and yeah, plenty of GMs are dumb. Look at NYR, Philly, LA, and more. When you're on the hot seat, external pressure will force hands.
