The 40 dynamic changes as a result of Marcus Pettersson as well. There’s no Byram, etc. coming anymore.

It basically has to be offensive enigmas coming back now.

Something that will discourage Hughes from walking. It's that simple.

All I'm hearing is Quinn Hughes walking in 2027 to be with his brothers. Does it matter how competitive we are? It is clear he is very close with his family (which isn't true about everybody).

How do we actually acquire one of his brothers? What assets do we need to move for soon to be RFA Luke Hughes?

Do they take Chytl + M. Pettersson + 1st + 2nd for Luke Hughes + cap dump (Hamilton)?

Alternatively, if we sign Luke to an $11.45M x 7 year RFA contract next year, does NJD match? If we do, does Quinn re-sign? If Quinn and Luke sign here, are we now talking about Jack signing here in 2030 instead of losing Quinn?

Just seems to be the narrative that Quinn is gone in two years, we need to change that.

If you're referring to my long list I'm assuming you noticed my list was ultra inclusive and landed on a resounding NO on Zegras?

Im just seeing his name a few times

Ultimately I think - how the fk else can you reasonably rescue the forward group especially if Boeser is asking for the moon?

It's UFA and trading for players with caveats.

But yeah it could backfire.
Pete and zegras top 2 centers - if we are going tk be winning games 2 1 that doesnt mesh

For my money, as much as I would happily take a value priced Josh Norris to keep QH happy, I think getting him some real protection would go further towards making him happy. He is getting targeted and there isn't enough push back on our team when he does take some lumps. I'm not suggesting trying to pick up a knuckle-dragging goon, but adding some pugnacity would be beneficial IMO...we have some guys willing to fight, but we don't have anyone with a short fuse and a mean streak.

Tbh, I don’t get this whole “bringing QH friends to keep him happy”. If the opportunity presents itself where NJ makes sense for him, he’s obviously not going to choose his friends over his literal blood siblings he’s close with.

Buffalo: Dylan Cozens, maaaybe Alex Tuch (if they don't think he will re-sign).

Cozens: I'm not big on him. He has a cute nickname and he's projectable as a big, right handed guy who has scored 30. I would take him for sure as a distressed asset, but wouldn't pay a premium.

Tuch: doubt very much he is available, but would be a great add.

New York Islanders: Matt Barzal (really unlikely he's available).

Barzal: If we could get him as a distressed asset (like Lekkerimaki, Hoglander, and maybe our 1st) I would strongly consider it. Speed and puck transporting for days. Not sure he's exactly the right temperament for what we need. But think the Islanders will double down for the umpteenth millionth time and probably re-sign Nelson LOL.

Ottawa: Josh Norris, maaaybe Drake Batherson (very unlikely).

Norris: I don't mind him as a distressed asset. He makes a lot of money, but he's got a serious weapon in his shot, he's faster than I give him credit for, and his development has been hampered by injuries but there's still potential there. If he's cheap (asset wise) and you have reason to believe he's over his injuries, I'm not dead set against it.
A few thoughts on guys I had in mind. Apologies for the long post.

With Cozens, I'd look at him as a distressed asset from the standpoint that Pegula might tell Adams to cut bait on the salary since the bang for the buck is pretty low at this point in time, there's no guarantee he'll even rebound to his production of a couple of years back in that environment, and the Sabres are going nowhere once again. Big kid can skate and play the body, not so good on faceoffs and possession stats aren't exciting, maybe Henrik helps turn him into an NHL center, maybe not, but he'd at least be a serviceable winger. What about the cost with other teams apparently having a high degree of interest?

Tuch would be a great addition, one more year left on a value contract, good ES producer heavy on the OZ starts, and his wife is from here, but he grew up a Sabres fan, and there's no reason to move him unless they're concerned about his ask on an extension or his domestic situation pushes him this way. He'd cost a lot.

Barzal would be a nice get, he might even be ready to move on himself, but like you say Lou Lam and the Isle will probably be doubling down, he's a key guy for them, and is now out for a while. But this is also where I could see Boeser agreeing to an extension, he's buds with Horvat and has proven chemistry with him, and it's also a team that might see value in Soucy as an adder. What else would the Canucks have to add to those two?

I've watched quite a few Sens games and sometimes Norris really impresses, he has a great shot, can play the body, holds his own on faceoffs and has played quite well defensively and on the PK this season. Durability is a real concern, and the Sens are in a playoff position, he's second on the team in goals, and there's no real motivation to move him unless ownership wants to cut some salary, or he wants out. They'd want a player or two in return that can contribute right now, as opposed to futures, and likely wouldn't take Boeser on as a rental.

I don't know if the buddy angle with Norris and Hughes would be a determining factor as far as Hughes extending either. Quinn's dad is a hockey lifer, he's prepared his boys for all the ups and downs of the pro game, on and off the ice, and Quinn's his own guy. This is his team, I think he extends as long as the team is competing.

I'll also add, I think Hughes has been kept in the loop as to the potential player moves relative to Miller and Pettersson, and he's on board.

Quinn will be able to make friends simply by being captain. That's about it for all I know there. There ain't a person worth knowing who doesn't like Quinn.

Canucks and Quinn. Write that down.

Hughes is the franchise right now, the only things that will keep him here over family is his overall happiness, and that means a winning, positive environment...maybe you aren't ultimately able to sway him to stay, but don't make it easy for him to leave.

In a vacuum, yes. But you hope some combination of getting to be the captain, playing with a few good friends, playing for a good team, liking the city, getting the 8th year on his contract, and not interfering with Luke's PP touches is enough for Quinn to stay here.

I think he'll eventually end up playing with his brothers. The question is if it'll be in 2028 or 2034.

lot.
Pretty much my take on him. He’s kinda like this generations Jeff Carter. Carter admittedly became a better C in LA but he was never really a good center in the first place (played a ton of wing in Philly as far as i can remember) but always played with above average linemates. Cozens doesn’t really have the intangibles or IQ to ever really be a good 200ft player. Very good offensive player but a liability in most place else but because of his physical attributes he has and will continue to get a ton of leeway.

I suppose if you’re going to get guys like this they better at least have center utility and the physical attributes to make up for that gap unlike a smaller less valuable winger.

Sillinger is a better target.

The challenge with Sillinger is the cost and the BJ's willingness to move him with both Monahan and Marchenko out. They might be looking to add rather than subtract or swap one for one or with futures.

Boeser for a 1st might work there, he could be willing to extend, and then maybe flip the 1st+ again for a forward. I really don't think a high dollar, long term extension here would be a wise move.

After finally being over the Miller drama and the way the new boys looked (along with EP2), I’m feeling more positive than before.

Continue to give yourself flexibility, sell where needed and bide your time for the right deal to come.

Health is and always will be a huge factor but least now there are options.

Just want to enjoy the team playing again.
