I'd be surprised if we see any of our top U25 swedish players/prospects traded now.
Yes, I said Norris is younger. Which works in his favour vs. Boeser.Though I agree, you’re also probably getting Norris for 2-3 years less than what Boeser will demand too. All else equal I’d take Boeser but Norris from 25-30 is more attractive than Boeser from 28-35. (Though I’d probably avoid both and try for something else.)
That is the job of the GM."just"
Never said he was a donkey. But I disagree that he was ever tracking better than Boeser. Norris has always been more of a pure finisher/PP producer that needs other to create for him. Not a bad player, but I don't think he changes anything.
The main factor for Quinn staying will be whether the Canucks are good and are a semi-realistic contender for the foreseeable future. I think acquiring one of his buddies would have a marginal effect, at best. Making roster moves where that is the main rationale is a mistake, IMO. If the Canucks don't turn it around, he's going to NJ whether Norris is here or not.
The "friend" line of reasoning isn't really far removed from Benning's "good in the room" talk.
oh yeah .. i am joking.. "just" makes it seem so trivialYes, I said Norris is younger. Which works in his favour vs. Boeser.
I'd rather just target a better player overall.

If there's anything we ought to have learned from the whole Miller debacle, it's that keeping in mind the human aspect of team composition (relationships, morale, keeping everyone friendly and happy) is just as important as acquiring talentPre-injuries Norris was tracking better than Boeser. Currently, probably not, although he's still on pace for 31 goals/82 this year.
It might not seem sound but it's a thing that happens all over the league. Keep your stars happy. Look how the Oilers have surrounded McDavid with his buddies or how Ovechkin always has a Russian contingent in Washington and so on.
There is going to be a huge pull in a couple years for Hughes to want to jump to NJ in particular and with a player this fantastic - probably the best player in franchise history - you want to be doing everything possible to sell staying here to him. It's not like Norris is some donkey so if you have to overpay a little bit to fit a guy like this on the roster, it probably makes sense.
I don't really think Norris has any edge at "both ends of the rink" (i.e. defensively) over Boeser, and that's being generous. I think Boeser does more interesting board work and net front work. Norris is a pure finisher. That is what he brings. On the right team, that is valuable, yes. He is younger. That's in his favour.Norris put up a 43 goal/82 season at age 22 and he plays C and kills penalties. He was unequivocally tracking better than Boeser when you factor in both ends of the rink and positional value.
Boeser is the definition of a complimentary scorer who doesn't create for himself so saying the same thing about Norris doesn't really differentiate between them.
Again, this stuff happens all the time and actually does matter. And it happens to much more extreme ends than this - Carolina giving the shitty 4th Staal brother a cup of coffee when he was barely an AHL player stands out.
Of course if we stink Hughes is gone. But if we're 'pretty good' in 2026 and have shown a ton of loyalty to Hughes and built the team around Hughes, it makes it a lot tougher to say no when we're offering a massive extension.
Why are we trying to get players who can't stay healthy??
Jim Benning 2.0

Also to be fair we have to pay him whatever he wants because we can't let him walk.I like Marcus Pettersson a lot, but he's more of a very good defensive defenseman, ideally on your 2nd pair.
If he's making 7M thats too much.
Gustav Forsling won the cup with Panthers as a top pairing guy leading. And is making cap wise 5.75M until forever.
If we keep overpaying players 2 million each we never win the cup
our pristine cascade water will heal himI do find the humour in a team that's been dealing with tons of injury problems all season going out and targeting some of the most injury-prone players in the league.
I guess they decided accumulating cap space wasn't working out and abusing the LTIR like Vegas is the better play.
Its probably just a matter of "who has the most potential but cost the least". Had Chytil and Norris been healthy their whole career, the acquisition cost would've been much higher. For a team lacking top end talent and assets, this is one way to try and inject some skills to the lineup.I do find the humour in a team that's been dealing with tons of injury problems all season going out and targeting some of the most injury-prone players in the league.

Rutherford has talked about wanting to get faster, and swapping Norris for Boeser would be a step in the right direction there. He’s a fair bit grittier too. I don’t know that Ottawa would want Boeser, probably have to find a third team. Hoglander being in the deal would help soften the blow cap wise. If the cost ended up being Hoglander and whatever we’d flip Boeser for, it would be worth the risk IMO.Norris put up a 43 goal/82 season at age 22 and he plays C and kills penalties. Its not just the chance to play for his brothers, but the chance to do so on a competitive / Stanley Cup contending team which NJ appears to be.You can aquire every single one of Hughes buddies, it won't mean shit if we can't convince him we can be a stanley cup contender year in year out
The chance to play with his brothers are probably going to be too hard to pass up either way

If he is the best player they can bring on for his cap hit, and at a decent trade cost, then sure. But I wouldn't prioritize him because he's Quinn's friend. The Staal example you gave I think leans more in favour of my argument. It was a small gesture that doesn't really affect the team's direction or team building plan. Trading for Norris is a significant investment.
